Cromwell Tank?

Post by makigono1 »

Hi Folks,
Do any of the DLC include the Cromwell? Looking to do an Operation Goodwood recreation, and while the Shermans are straightforward enough, no Cromwell 3D model.

The British are lacking many unit types, they barely have the units necessary for early-war scenarios.
So Valentine, Churchill, Cromwell etc are not available yet.
Usually a new campaign will introduce a number of new units. I guess creating the 3D units is a lot of work.
Let's hope for a British campaign soon.

I vote for a wage increase for bebro to get his 3d tank production running 24/7. :P
These 2d unit pictures of PC1 also requires 3d models to create, but maybe they bought them somewhere to offer so many right from first release. Adjusting the shot-animations also takes time in PC if you don't have proper tools. I don't think OOB requires so much more work than PC for example, but maybe someone like bebro can enlighten us.

H.Balck will produced every wished unit for OoB ! He produced so many new units for his OoB - Africa Corps and its easy for him to set this units also for the OoB community with OoB original game textures.

Hehe, I'm all for your first idea, though 24/7 will be hard to achieve.... needing sleep and all. ;)

I'd say workload-wise modelling for PzC or OOB is overall similar, but there are differences in certain areas - as PzC (1) was a 2d engine the ppl who did the units there (not me) could be way more generous in using up more polygons for the unit models. The 3d models there are used to create PNG pics which the engine displays, which is not that resource-heavy.

For a 3d engine like OOB you need to think way more about optimizing models as the data needs to calculated in real time, so the more details there are on a unit the more resources are needed when playing. And the models need to be prepared for anims (namely that animated elements like rotating turrets, or guns with recoil are all "child" 3d objects of their "parent" unit, so can be treated indenpendantly for anims). So a unit model for a tank comes usually in three main parts in OOB (main body/chassis, turret, and the gun), while for PzC (1) the same unit was just one 3d model as a whole.

As for the question in the OP, it's like Erik said - only limited roster for the UK so far, but I'm optimistic that this will change over time.
