Just played a game today........... all was good!
Except for one little niggle we found.............
Some persian cavalry charged into some cretan archer LF on a gentle hill........... the cavalry won the impact phase (though it was pretty evens!) but when it came to the cohesion test for the cretans we could not find a modifier for LF loosing to cav in the open, MF suffer a penalty for this but not LF..............
.............did we have it right?
as it happens the cretans held for a turn , and in the next turn a unit of thessalians slid along to contact the persian cav and mullered them!

Re: quick query
You are correct, the Cretans do however only get half dice and will be a POA down at least at impact and then probably 2 POAs down in melee. If the Cretans don't go disrupted then the cavalry will break off. See viewtopic.php?p=64981#64981 for current discussion.chubooga wrote:Just played a game today........... all was good!

Re: quick query
Not if they're uphill (as in this case I think) as the LF will get a +PoA for being uphillhammy wrote:

In general who would you rather be the MF Off Sp or the LH in that matchup?
Mind you I guess it was unlikely to be a dead straight fight ...

yep the POA's were close, the uphill really helping out........ the cretans dropped a level at impact then a level in melee but once the other armoured cav joined in they were saved!
The surprising bit wasnt the POA's, it was that MF losing to cav in the cohesion take a -1, but LF loosing to cav in the open dont!

In an earlier playtest version of the rules MF were always a POA down in combat against mounted. This did not produce the right effects so it was changed so that the POA only applied at impact and the -1 CT was added to make MF weaker than HF against mounted in melee.chubooga wrote:yep the POA's were close, the uphill really helping out........ the cretans dropped a level at impact then a level in melee but once the other armoured cav joined in they were saved!

LF are already weaker than mounted as they only get half as many dice against all mounted. Most of the time LF will be beaten by enemy mounted. In your case good quality light troops with a tactical advantage (the hill) managed to delay the enemy mounted just long enough for their own mounted to come to their aid.
yes I can see the logic of it all.
TBH my cav were in a single line for evading purpose as they were deployed on the flank where I wasnt planning on fighting!
however, being a greedy boy I was tempted by the LF in the open and got stuck in........ once I had lost the 2 cav units on the flank I was in real trouble and got squeezed badly!
that will teach me!
