Custom 1v1 Arras 1940 Scenario

Post by makigono1 »

Hi Folks,
Please forgive (and correct me) if I'm posting this is in the wrong place. This is my first OOB: Blitzkrieg (v2.9.9) scenario. I decided to try doing a battle that is actually smaller in scale than I think the game was intended, but it seemed to work nicely (one of the reasons I like OOB is its the flexibility). I basically designed it to be a division/corps level simulation of the action of the 21st of May, with a scale of approximately 800m/hex and 1 hour per turn (assuming that the attack started in the afternoon and went until after dark.) It's a human vs human-only scenario, as I'm still learning how to set the AI for the scenario. If I was to do a mod to make this a little more realistic at this scale, the only change I think I would make would be increasing the engagement ranges a bit especially for the artillery. Otherwise, the game really seems (at least to me) to work well at this scale. I've little experience in what others have done with the game at a smaller scale level already. I'm just getting my feet wet. If this one works, I'll try a tactical level mod, with more battles, like Sedan.

I figure everyone knows the tactical situation, so I won't bore anyone with that, other than to say that the play balancing really does favor the Germans. In the interests of fair play, I tried fudging things as much as I could without it ceasing to resemble Arras at all. However, it is still possible for the Allies to win, though, very difficult.
