My final game for this round of the tournament was a victory over Rex as Oodieboogie.

My British cavalry negated his better quality Swedish cavalry by lining the edge of a forest and standing on a long ridge. My more numerous foot outshot his foot and weakened his mounted until my cavalry could charge at advantage, and I had some spare units to work around his flank.

British lost 42% 8.0 points Swedes lost 62% 4.2 points.

Thanks to all my opponents who gave me some very interesting and exciting games. I look forward to the next round of games.

Box 4

Rex (UndieRipper) French 1670-90 19%
BrentBJ Dutch 1649-88 49%

The French deployed with their pike between two large woods and not much else visible. The Dutch approached cautiously with their pike forward and mounted echeloned back on either flank in case of a flank march. Insults were exchanged and French shock mounted came charging out of the woods on their right flank.
French shock cavalry are awesome. Dutch mounted are not.

My final results:

youngr (Russian) lost with 54 routed vs rexhurley [Undieripper!] (Swedish) with 28 routed. Bit of a disaster for me in this game!

youngr = 2.8
undieripper = 8.6

youngr (Swedish) won with 51 routed vs rexhurley [Undieripper] (Russian) with 63 routed. A close game!

youngr = 7.2
undieripper = 5.1

I think this makes rbodleyscott as the winner of Box 4. Well done Richard!

Swedish lion triumphs again! Doyley50 (Swedes) 15% routed, Rexhurley (Russkies) 41% routed.

The Swedish horse, greatly outnumbered by a horde of Russian cavalry intent on an outflanking movement, managed to delay them long enough for the Swedish foot to strike home against the Russian infantry and go through them like a knife through butter.

Evening all,

Has anyone heard from Ohf recently. I set our box 1 game up but haven't heard anything since 20th Feb. Not sure what the deadline is for round 1 but time's marching on.

Me too Kelen, I've got a vast horde of Jacobites waiting for him in a sea of forest... such as shame to waste! Also, if Seaport is out there... second game challenge is waiting :D

A very close battle the outcome of which was very much in doubt right until the end. Great game thanks BrentBJ!

Kelen 2: Danish 1681-1698
Iandavidsmith: German States 1689-1698

The 2 sides were separated by a deep stream with a central hill on the German side. In the centre the Danish musketeers rapidly forded the stream and rushed up the hill preventing the Germans from fully occupying the feature, whilst their left flank horse decided discretion was the better part of valour when faced with a superior cavalry force and choose to defend the stream bed. The width of the battlefield meant that their right flank was, 'in the air'.
The depth of the stream prevented the German horse from rolling over their Danish opponents, and both sides ended up in a protracted melee which, although the Germans were ultimately victorious, tied up their horse sufficiently to prevent them to affecting the outcome of the battle elsewhere.
Meanwhile an attempted flanking move by German cavalry on the opposite open flank was stopped dead by some sneaky hidden musketeers and horse who caught the German horse out of formation. Their sudden appearance scaring some into sudden flight allowing the Danes being able to turn this move back on itself.
In was in the centre though were the battle was decided with the superior firepower of the Danish musketeers soon tearing holes in the German infantry, (they being hampered by the fact that large numbers of them had brought along long pointy sticks to a shooting match!) Faced with being unable to win the shooting match, and with the majority of those units that attempted to close simply being shot away, the German centre simply evaporated.

losses,

Danish 38%
German States 61%

Kelen: (61% - 38%)/10 = 2.3 + 6 = 8.3
Iandavidsmith: 38%/10 = 3.8

Box 4

BrentBJ Jacobite 60%
RBS Imperialist 56%

A brutal game that could have gone either way for most of the game. I made the mistake of getting pike and mounted stuck in forests fighting musketeers and other mounted and that cost me.
Thanks for an absorbing game.

As above

rbodleyscott (imperial Austrian 1691-1698) 56% routed

won vs

BrentBJ (Jacobite Irish 1689-1691) 60% routed

A Pyrrhic victory indeed.

---------------------------------

Also

rbodleyscott (Polish 1652-1662) 10% routed

won vs

TheGrayMouser (Russian 1662-1694) 41% routed.
