Destroyer depth charge sound problem
Is anyone else having this sound problem with destroyer depth charging subs? When the attack starts the sound file "sticks" ie it runs continuously until you save game then exit to menu then come back to the game. It's not my sound card or drivers; the drivers are up to date and not having any sound issues with any other games or apps. Within OOB itself, it's not constant either, some scenarios are OK while others are not.

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
I've played everything up to Blitzkrieg, and I never heard this problem. That sound clip is probably embedded in the resources.assets file or one of the others like it, so it's not like one of us could post it here for you to download and install. It always sounds a bit facile to say this but, perhaps if you reinstalled your game, you may refresh this file if it is somehow corrupted.

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
I have never had any sound problems with the game.
And as Bru says, a reinstall may cure your problem.

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
When I've created the sounds for the game I've always ensure that each sound would be encoded in the same standard format (PCM 16bit Stereo) in order to avoid sound issues that other games have.
I think that your issue might be related with your audio codecs or some kind of interference made by a 3rd party program running in the background.
It won't be easy to diagnose.

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
Question - when I reinstall do I have to do all the patches or just the last 2.9.9?

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
I heard exactly the same issue in a new install of 2.9.9. It only occurred in some US Pacific scenarios- which was the first campaign played. Not in Morning Sun, US Marines (nor replays), nor Rising Sun (so far). It will be interesting to hear if trouble comes back after your reinstall.

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
jakemon, I reinstalled twice. Right now after the 2nd reinstall I've played the entire US Pacific campaign. The sound problem only occurred during the last scenario (Operation Downfall) this time. It also occurs during the custom scenario Takimnobo 46 - what's interesting is that the destroyers in this scenario have the problem whereas the light cruiser does not.jakemon wrote:I heard exactly the same issue in a new install of 2.9.9. It also appears to not matter which class of destroyer is doing the depth charging. I might replay the Downfall scenario with different classes to see if that's true but willing to bet it is (could be wrong

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
I forgot, all drivers/codecs up to date for system. Also having no other sound problems in any other app. This is most puzzling.....

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
OK, just played the US Marines campaign. The Gilbert Islands scenario with the Japanese sub depth charged by destroyer worked perfectly, no sound problem. Does anyone have a clue what's happening here because I sure don't?
Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
For me, the DD sound issue only occurred during my first ever OOB campaign: US Pacific. I suspect the issue is related to platform resource contention rather than file corruption. Before I became confident in the save / load process, I had OOB running constantly for days. I wasn't bashful about using <alt><tab> to pause the game and do plenty of other things (and leave them open when I went back to OOB).
By the time I ran through the Morning / Rising Sun and US Marines campaigns, my style of play had changed in this multitasking regard, and I didn't encounter the sound issue again. I'll repeat the US Pacific campaign using my "save and exit each scenario" methodology for another data point. (I also throw in a reboot every few days.)
It's interesting (and unfortunate) you heard the problem after 2 reinstalls. Can you reliably reproduce the issue by replaying either the Downfall or Takimnobo 46 scenarios? If so, you have the means for further troubleshooting.

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
jakemon, thanks for taking the time to assist me with this problem. Replayed the Takimnobo scenario, same problem. Haven't done the Downfall but willing to bet it has same problem as it did when I just replayed that whole campaign. I shutdown laptop every day properly and always save game properly. I also don't suspect file corruption if that same file is used throughout the game. Also don't suspect resource issue since the problem is in the same scenarios. Not saying anything wrong with those since virtually no one else seems to be having this problem. That narrows it done to something on\in said laptop but why doesn't it have the problem in other scenarios? That's the million dollar question.jakemon wrote:For me, the DD sound issue only occurred during my first ever OOB campaign: US Pacific. Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
Can you tell me the specific unit type names (destroyer and submarine) this is happening with?

Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
adherbal, thanks for helping also. In the Downfall scenario destroyers are DD Sumner and the sub was the Kaiten Kamikaze. I've played the scenario many times with other destroyer types (Gearing, Fletcher probably even the later model Gleaves) and same problem. In the Takimnobo scenario, the destroyers are the DD Sumner and DD Gearing and the subs are the two SS I-201. The CL Atlanta AA cruiser does not have any sound problem, depth charging works perfectly. Also does not matter what order I depth charge in. I can do the destroyer first, sound problem occurs and then the cruiser will depth charge normally thru it. Do the cruiser first, works normally then the destroyer, problem occurs.adherbal wrote:Can you tell me the specific unit type names (destroyer and submarine) this is happening with?
System specs: Alienware 15R2 - i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60 GHz - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M - NVIDIA HD audio and Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible)(WDM) = All firmware, drivers, codecs etc updated.
Re: Destroyer depth charge sound problem
Looks like the problem is with the hedgehog launcher effect, used on the later war destroyers (Sumner class) and cruisers. Thanks for reporting, will be fixed in the upcoming update.
