[Winter War]Lapland 44

Ivalo objective - despite the fact that there appeared a brown cross, I got points for occupying the city, so the problem is somewhere else.

I talked about this here:
http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 72&t=73788

And offered a fix for it here:
http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 72&t=76047

But nobody paid any attention. Just like nobody ever answered your post in what is supposed to be Tech Support.

In spite of everything, the lack of attention to these forums on the part of the developers is what shakes my confidence about the viability of this franchise. It appears nobody is minding the business. I feel like it's "grab what you can get while it's still here" because they seem to have one foot out the door.

Sorry, but that's the lingering impression that I have. I only hope that they make it to Normandy and Afrika Korps before disappearing. I want those additional units.

I think they noticed it (even though they should have at least posted an acknowledgement for your efforts).
adherbals post about how they want to streamline updates through their own system instead of Slitherine's loooong queue was quite revealing. It is mostly about workflow and few resources on the side of the Artistocrats. I mean, every day is just 24 hours and the devs need to sleep, too. If they cant afford a community manager like Blizzard has, it is mostly because this community (and market segment, it is a business) is a lot smaller (and more adult).
Also, I dont think they will jump ship with the OoB franchise. They already have a pretty much sunk investment here, just like you. :D

@bru888 Did you register for the Kriegmarine beta? If not, why don't you? Your concerns about us dropping support for this game is completely unnecessary and the best way to see the latest progress is as part of the beta tests.

OoB-WW2 is still our primary game and I don't see that changing any time in 2017.

@bru: BTW, adherbal now adressed your concerns twice directly. I think you kind of owe him that betatest now.

Two things:

1) I feel like I'm still a year behind with this game. I only joined the crowd a year ago January, and I have yet to play all of the DLC (Blitzkrieg will be the last). I don't feel up to speed to be on a beta team, yet.

2) I've been working hard on a scenario that I gave up on last year and returned to only recently. It's coming around now. Soon. It's called "Oahu Invasion."

EDIT: Hmmm. That sounded kinda dumb, didn't it? On the one hand, "I'm not up to speed yet" and on the other hand, I'm designing my own scenario. Believe me, it has occurred to me to join a beta team here; such is my interest in this game. I dunno; maybe the next go-around.

Whenever you have a working Oahu I'd love to take another look at it.

Doesnt sound dumb at all. Betatesting should actually be a paid gig for consistency and quality. (Tried it once, annoying.) Doing your own scenarios is a labour of love, no deadline and no pressure. Along with the workflow issues described by adherbal, I think this free betatesting by players is a bit less than optimal. But I guess there is no way around it. Wargaming is a small market, after all. Bills must be paid. Lets hope that with more and more DLCs coming up, the devs are having less and less problems. I mean, the game has improved markedly in stability and gameplay. Lets hope that trend continues (I think it will). :D

I just have one more darned thing to fix. How do you get planes to spawn and go after a specific aircraft target? I tried Air Search & Destroy, specifying Transport (Air) because I want three Japanese Zeros to pursue a bunch of C47 transports (they are empty, though - they just spawn units when they land - maybe that is the problem) but the Zeros wander off, distracted by shiny things.

I tell you, Erik, my hat is off to you guys who know this scenario editor. It's frustrating because I KNOW what triggers should do but I am only 80 to 90% there as to how each one works. No place is there a definition or glossary, not in the editor nor in these forums. As I learn, I will continue to update the scenario editor manual that I uploaded recently.

My fear is that, I will get the scenario ready for release just in time for the developers to change the game with the Kriegsmarine game patch.

The air transport problem is probably due to them being empty as you said.
You could try spawning a land unit with air transport as a test and see if it works. Try a infantry unit.

Yep, that positivity has gotten me through Eriks original Crete mission.
"Well, I have no supply, no reinforcements, outnumbered on land 6:1 and totally surrounded, bombers are low on health and fuel and cannot retreat and the Royal Navy has just arrived with several battleships and an aircraft carrier...."

I did a test; you can look at it here (follow the instruction in the briefing):

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing (with Google Drive, look for and click the Download All button and it will make a zip file automatically)

The Zeros go right for the C47 transports, as planned, even though they are empty.

In my Oahu scenario, however, I think two things were issues: 1) I started the Zeros too far away from the C47s to begin with; I believe the AI is subject to fog of war to some extent, and there are no Japanese units nearby to spot the transports, and 2) There are many more units in the Oahu scenario to confuse and distract the Zeros.

So, I "choreographed" the Zeros, using the principle of "Lead a horse to water, then make it drink."

I still was having a problem until I finally figured it out. The Oahu scenario map is huge. The Japanese airfield and carriers are far away from where I was spawning the Zeros. My orders to move to hex, defend hex, patrol, and air seek and destroy, whatever I tried, were all being overridden by the need for FUEL.

The AI was calculating that the planes could not advance any further in pursuit of the transports without turning back to refuel. Of course, on the way back, they picked targets to attack on the way, hence my impression that they were wandering off instead of obeying orders.

My gosh. If you only knew how much time I spent on this before I realized that all my spawned Zeros started with fuel of 5 instead of 10. How in the heck did that happen, and how long ago?
