Head-scratcher for the mods?

Post by bru888 »

"Mods" meaning modders, not moderators. (Developers are welcome, too! :) )

I am getting back into the editor (Lord help me) and in order to improve my understanding, I am following along in the editor the scenario that I am playing. In this case, it's Mława, the first scenario in the Blitzkrieg DLC.

My question is as follows. I noticed that if I click the question mark next to the Bunker Kill objective, no comments appear. I am assuming that this is the scenario, not my game installaion, although that could be a possibility.

The other two secondary objectives provide comments. The one about the airfield takes you to a spot on the map, and the one about ground units does not, of course. So it's not a matter of a hex link being required for comments to appear.

So, assuming that it's the scenario and not a corrupted file in my installation, why do the Bunker Kill comments not appear? This looks normal to me in the editor; what am I missing?

Not all objectives have a comment. That is up to the designer.
I see the ? mark as a link to the map pointer. Comments are an extra bonus.

Ok, but my question comes more from a scenario design viewpoint. What determines in this scenario that the comments shown for "Destroy a bunker in 3 turns" do not appear when clicking the "?" whereas the comments for the "Destroy 20 ground units" do appear? The setup up for both objectives in the Mission tab seems to be the same. Yet there has to be a logical reason, a setting that I am missing.

I would place my bet that something went wrong and when scenario was saved it "froze" the situation with it.

Bing, bing, bing, bing! Winner! :D

I deleted the original line and made a new one with the same comments:

Now clicking the "?" for "Destroy a bunker in 3 turns" displays those comments:

And the other two secondary objectives display as originally designed. Thanks, uran21!

But be aware when you erase mission objective and create another one you should also check linkage of new objective in the triggers. For example among Effects, will linkage to completed or failed objective be in place or Conditions where you link some condition to objective to get the counter.

Yes, you are absolutely right. I had noticed that the "?" did not turn into a check mark when I replayed the scenario and destroyed the bunker. As you said, the Set Objective State trigger was not linked to any Objective ID because I had deleted the original objective and recreated it:

After I linked the Kill Bunker and (Kill Bunker FAIL) trigger to the objective, I got the check mark when the deed was done:

Thanks again!
