Unit wheeling after chase

Post by Ohf »

Hi !

I was wondering what is the mechanic behind the wheeling/new charge after charging/chasing a light cav or light inf enemy unit.

Here's an example : my cav unit charges a light cav. The light cav evades, and my cav chases it. At some point, an enemy (normal) cav ends up in the front of my cav. Sometimes (case 1) my cav will charge it, sometimes (case 2) it will wheel in the direction of the light cav it charged in the first place (then exposing its flank to the enemy cav). I hope I was clear in this example x) . What triggers case 1 and what triggers case 2 ?

It can change direction up to 45 degrees to charge a new target but only
a) if it thinks it has a good chance in the combat.
and
b) it has enough move left to move into the enemy square (like a normal charge). Bear in mind that pursuers get a variable adjustment to their overall AP of between -4 and +4 AP in the case of units pursing evaders.

If for either of these reasons it does not charge, it continues to pursue the evaders/routers for the remainder of its move and turns to face them if not already facing them at the end of its move. This may expose its flank to a charge, but the unit is deemed to have tunnel vision in its eagerness to catch the evaders/routers.
