Battle of Adana 1488 scenario

Post by Paul59 »

The Battle of Adana 1488 is now available for download. This was a major battle from the Ottoman-Mamluk wars. There are lots of cavalry archers, both light and heavy, so it gives you a good chance to practice your skills with these troop types.

Here are the design notes;

I used Peter Sides Renaissance Battles Volume 1, and various online resources as a basis for this scenario,

1) I have created bow armed Jannissaries for this scenario.

2) Difficulty Rating; Hard.

3) Sideicons are as follows;

Mamluk; Sultan Al-Ashraf Qansuh al-Ghawri, the Mamluk Sultan at the time, a commander called Uzbey commanded the army in the battle, but I have been unable to find a portrait of him.

Ottoman; Sultan Bayezid, Vizier Ali Pasha commanded the army at the battle, but I have been unable to find a portrait of him.

Cheers

Check out this early Mod from Adebar;

I prefer to use a Pitch angle of 23, rather than 45. It gives a much nicer camera angle in my opinion.

You can also increase the zoom to get in much closer.

It works in SJ too!

Yes, I find it a much more pleasant view angle. I don't know if many players are aware of this mod, as Adebar discovered it early in the life of Pike and Shot and the thread is now buried at the bottom of the Modders Corner forum.

Thanks for the scenario. I haven't played P&S for at least 6 months, and this was a great battle to come home to.

Just lost (62% / 55%) on my first try. I ignored the center and divided the cavalry there to feed my attacks on the left and the right. I was able to wipe out the ottomans flanks, but the center held in the end, and soon enough I had nothing left to throw at those damn janissaries. Will try again, very interesting and enjoyable scenario !
The first charges against the ottoman light cav can be frustrating when they evade and your unit ends up exposing its flank to the enemy cav. Sometimes my cavalry kept charging forward after chase, but sometimes it wheeled, exposing flanks. Is there any way to know what your unit will do ? Or is it random ?

As far as I know, there probably is a logic to it, but I have never been able to predict how far they will chase and what turns they may make.

Glad you like the scenario! This is another of my scenarios that I made well over a year ago, but did not release at the time. I remember getting at least one victory back then, but when I play tested it again recently I lost very narrowly, with similar percentages to you, so it is quite a hard scenario.

cheers
