Basic movement question

Post by deeter »

This is probably very noobish but here goes:

During the movement phase, Undrilled Other must pass a CMT to move less than their maximum. but fail the test. However, enemy troops are straight ahead at less than the friendly's max move. Do they:
1. move as far as they can without making contact, or
2. not move at all because the failed the test?

We've gone with 1, but I'm still wondering.

Thanks,

Deeter

2 is the correct response.

As they have failed a CMT to make a complex move then their only option is either to not move, or to make a simple move. As they are undrilled other without a general, and with enemy close the only simple move is straight forward their full move, as this is blocked by the enemy they can't move.

If the BG would terrain rather than an enemy BG, and the terrain was more than their reduced move then they could either not move, or move straight forward to touch the terrain - as their move would be reduced to below the distance they have moved if they entered the terrain then they are considered to have moved their full move when their front edge touches the terrain.

Having rolled a CMT and failed doesn't require them to move, is simpy means that they can't make a complex move, and if they do move they must do so before any other BGs move or make a CMT.

Correct

Undrilled in this position who fail stall. If you fail several times you may find the only option is to charge. Thi fits with undrilled nature where comples thingsa re hard but ADVANCE FULL and CHARGE are easy to do.

Remeber that undrilled other troops can still automatically move short or wheel near the enemy if there is a general actually with the BG. If your plan requires this to be possible, make sure you have a general in the right place at the right time.

If you are closer than your move to the enemy then you could always charge.
