I really want to like this game but....
First mission and I have already come across what can only be an invulnerable unit. 4 shots (3 bolters, 1 melta gun) at a half strength gretchin unit, 2 of the shots at point blank range = 0 damage?
Invulnerable units?

Re: Invulnerable units?
Ranged weapons suffer a hit probability up close. That's to encourage tactics and use close combat units. Edit: you can test this by looking at your unit's hit probability at different ranges and when you are adjacent to an enemy unit. Your accuracy goes way down when the unit is up in your face. I guess you could say this is an abstract way to simulate trying to block axe swings from chopping off your legs while you're trying to aim.

Re: Invulnerable units?
I can understand that, but after 4 more bolter shots all at range 2 the following turn all with 0 damage?
I finally gave in and used the hero to kill the 1 gretchin in close combat.

I hit a gretchin with a meltagun once. It didnt do much. Im just guessing that particular Gretchin had a third arm and I 'fixed' him with my melta shot...

If you press "1" on your keyboard it'll bring up a "tactical display" there is a button for it to the left of your "next unmoved unit" as well. This will show you your minimum/optimal/maximum range. For bolters its generally best to not shoot something on the tile next to you, back them off a bit and go for a better shot. We're working on better ways of giving this feedback to the player.
Meltaguns are best used on squads with less men or heavy armour. Their fire is focused and deadly, but wasted on a gretchen who have lots of men in a squad. Rapid fire weapons or flamers are better for dealing with them.

Re: Invulnerable units?
That is good info, I missed that in the game manual. Is that in there? It would be great to have some 'weaponeering' advice in the manual since our troops can't tell us that we are idiots for not using the right weapons for the right target, LOL.WolfMother wrote:If you press "1" on your keyboard it'll bring up a "tactical display" there is a button for it to the left of your "next unmoved unit" as well. Re: Invulnerable units?
There is definitely a bug where units become unkillable - seen it a couple of times but not seen a pattern to track it down. It is on the bug list. Thanks!
Re: Invulnerable units?
When it happened to me, the unit was unkillable from range, but killable in melee. I don't know how AoE would have fared. I should have saved the game at this time.IainMcNeil wrote:There is definitely a bug where units become unkillable - seen it a couple of times but not seen a pattern to track it down.
