Decline and Fall--armies of interest
In the vein of a previous thread on the upcoming Eternal Empire book, I was wondering which armies in "Decline and Fall" folks were most interested in.
FWIW Early Byzantine, Arab Conquest, African Vandal, and Ghaznavid look very interesting to me.

Ghaznavid is one of the armies that was present in the playtest set of army lists and it is really rather fun. Fortunatley I can field almost everything in the Ghaznavid list with what I already own.
The rest of the Arab armies are also pretty interesting too. Dailami anyone
The Byzantine lists combined with the potential of some nice new ranges of miniatures might get me looking at the Eastern Roman empire as well and that would be my first new ancients army for a while.

Thematic/Nikephorian
Definitely Nikephorian and Thematic Byzantine for me. I am interested to see what the Russ ally looks like (if available) and the way the various incarnations of varangians and mixed arms cavalry are represented.

Now that I have a copy of D&F in hand, I can say that I'm very pleased with the book and with the choices here. (I focus on in period and in theme matches, so how an army does in the open format doesn't factor into this for me)
Early Byzantines are my favorites of the Byzantine lists in this book, though they all have interest. Having just fought a game against the Nikephorian list I can add that the HF DSp and MF bw combination is tough.
I like the Muslim armies a lot. Arab Conquest is intriguing, undrilled, with lots of HF offensive spear and some decent lancer cav especially post 638. An entire army graded superior could be quite nasty in period. Umayyad is a drilled average version with better armored cavalry. Abbasid has plenty of variety. Khurasanian looks very good. I'm less interested in Ghaznavid after seeing them but that's just me.
I'd say that the Early South Slavs are the surprise of the book for me--very interesting mix for a barbarian army.
And you gotta love the African Vandals for simply being what they are--a ton of armored lance cavalry graded superior. Win or lose it's likely to be over quick
Cheers,
