Glider Mod

Post by Konigstiger88 »

The German Me 321 was a large glider that could carry around 20 tons of cargo, including vehicles. It came into service around the time of Operation Barbarossa, but by then Germany had stopped large scale paratrooper assaults. However Panzer Corps is a what-if game, so what if you as the field General decided to still use large airborne assaults including using the Me 321 to transport light tanks (Panzer I's and II's), light artillery/anti-tank/air-defense (most of the soft stuff) and other light armored vehicles (including all recon vehicles and some anti-tank vehicles including Marders and Hetzers). This could be easily modded in the game to allow this. You could fly a force of armor, artillery and infantry behind enemy lines and assault them from all sides. Comment if you have any opinions.

you don't need a mod for this tactic as it is possible to use it already

look here

I don't know anything about historical loading capacity, but according to the equipment110.pdf file (downloadable somehwere here) it is even possible to carry a Tiger 2 , a Maus even a Gustav or Karl Gerät with the me323 when it's listed as transport unit. I can't confirm that as I never tried it, but I loaded up and transported several Tigers and even a Churchill with these Units

Hope this helps

Yup, it's been in the game for a long time. However it's up to a scenario designer to enable certain types of transport (plane/glider/rail/etc) in a given scenario.

If you want to try a full scale glider operation you should definitely play Afrika Korps and its Caucasus scenario in the "alternative history" part ;)

Interesting, but to be able to use gliders in every battle you would have to modify individual scenarios.

maybe that's exactly what designers did not want you to do  and limit the tactic as gimmick for a few occasions

btw one of the early scenarios in GC 42-43 West iirc its Hardelot there is some kind of Glider action as well as you have to shift around a few Units quickly cause the AI randomly attacks from several directions

or perhaps they plan to create a new DLC content named Glider Corps

Now that I think about it, having unlimited gliders would make paratroopers obsolete. Maybe limit it to one or two for most scenarios, or make some elite units specifically trained for glider deployment.
