US Marines DLC at the highest level of difficulty

Post by kondi754 »

I've just finished the US Pacific Campaign.
Difficulty level - 4. (Admiral)

Some minor bugs on printscreens.

Now I will plan to play the US Marines DLC on the 5th (Fleet Admiral) level of difficulty.
Playing on the 4th level was demanding but slowly it gets too simple to me.

If anyone is interested I can report about the progress.

Those red arrows over the Tokyo harbour facilities, how did you get them? Is that in the game? It looks like they're pointing out the secondary objectives. I think I missed this objective because I didn't know which VPs to capture to complete it.

If there's a map marker for objectives that would be stellar.

Yes, this markers are in the game.
You just need to click the mouse on the question mark next to the objective.
Look at printscreens.

How about making AAR of marine campaign on highest difficulty?
I will do that campaign soon too cause I think I'm nearly finished Morning Sun. I don't the bedraggled Chinese can take much more of my attacks. It is a good campaign if you like mostly land combat with some air fighting and small naval fights.
Does marine campaign have naval battles? Do the deadly Yamato and Musashi make an appearance?

It would be good to have a campaign include a naval component so you could have ships in your core and they gain experience and have carrier planes as well. There was a lot of naval combat in the pacific so it would realistic too.

Tulagi & Gavutu Scn (highest diff. level) completed successfully - all the objectives are achieved (even got M2 tank ).
It seems to me that the game was only slightly more difficult than the 4th level.

I've just finished Guadalcanal scn, it's damn hard on the highest difficulty level. :?
I concentrated all my units around the Henderson Field during the decisive Japanese attack. Attempting to defend a larger area could end in disaster because of the stretched line of defense.
Remember that attacking Japanese units had a power of 13 HP.
Unfortunately I didn't manage to destroy all Japanese air units, probably I regret this during the next scenarios. :(

Very good Hendersen defense.
Why do IJA have 13 hp for attack?
What is the tank M3? It is a Stuart?

Sorry, I thought about the strength points (SP). My mistake.
At the next level of difficulty enemy units are getting stronger.
3rd level - 10 sp
4th level - 12 sp
5th level - 13 sp (AI is really aggressive at this level),
while your unit can have up to 10 sp.

Yes, M3 was early version of Stuart.

Thanks for info.
Why does the event card say 'out of stock' for the M3? Is it a newer prototype Stuart? I can see a Stuart and a Sherman in your battle picture.

Read the text under the picture, there is all explained. :)
Europe was a priority for the supply of equipment, so the older versions of Stuart (from depots) were sent on Guadalcanal.

Munda Point Scn accomplished. Army General diff. level.
It was necessary to perform a landing on one (east) beach only.
Previously, I landed on the entire width of the coast, but with such a strong opponent it would be suicide. (print screen)
Fights were hard - I was't able to complete the mission in 40 turns, as well as destroy the Villa Airfield. It seems to me, however, it is possible with precise planning - even at the highest difficulty level.
I noticed a strange thing at the end of the battle. Japanese units fled before my forces approaching the Piru Plantation :!:

Bougainville Scn accomplished at Army General level.
All objectives done.
The worst part was capturing airfields - few units, difficult terrain and powerful, well-entrenched enemy.
I still use Wildcats, can't afford new Hellcats or Corsairs. Japanese Zero or Hien are very tough opponents for the old F4-F.
Japanese bombers from Rabaul were like a stone in the shoe. I lost one supply ship.
There are very few resources points, as well as points of specialization at the highest level of difficulty.

The next mission - Tarawa atoll, I feel it will be devilishly difficult.

kondi, perhaps you should move up 1 or 2 notches in difficulty level. Or maybe you are just enjoying your victories.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to raise the level of difficulty above.
5th level is the highest, but I think I might try to play with a more difficult opponent.
Maybe someone will create a Mod introducing custom (higher) difficulty levels?
But enough jokes, the game is very demanding and challenging at the highest level, so forgive me that I'm happy with my achievements. :D

Gilbert Islands Scn completed.
Landing zones pointed on printscreens.
Betio - there is important diversionary attack on the HQ bunker.
Butairiri - landing in the middle of the island and cutting off enemy units located in the west side of the island.

Guam captured.
The first 8-10 turns was the hardest. I had a lot to think to prevent the landing wasn't turned into a slaughter.
BTW, all objectives done.
