Asap thanks for info. LOoks like you also have a heavy artillery which you said is too expensive. I think yours is heavy cause it looks like Panzer Corp heavy arty.
Seems everyone dislikes heavy infantry and never uses them? Why? May Japanese core has two heavy inf and they are doing good. They also have mortars which can hit arty behind enemy infantry.

Re: Kiev Scenario in Blitzkreig
I use Heavy infantry only in defensive missions. On the defence it's an excellent unit and I made good use of it in the Winter war campaign. On the offence however you need to deploy it with transport. For the same supply cost I would rather deploy one regular infantry and one engineer.GiveWarAchance wrote:Asap thanks for info. Heavy Infantry are a nice luxury due to the mortar ability and firepower. The drawback is they cost a pretty penny to reinforce with veteran troops.
Re: Kiev Scenario in Blitzkreig
Heavy artillery is too expensive mainly in the early game, of course I used one of these guns as siege artillery in Kiev, one. The heavy infantry is a fantastic unit for defense missions but needs 5 command points (with truck), which is too much for me, I would prefer a regular infantry unit + a 7.5 cm "cacafuego" for these 5 points.GiveWarAchance wrote:Asap thanks for info. Okay. What is cacafuego? The image forming in my mind is parrot dung but that can't be right.
You were talking about Stugs. I know how they work in Panzer Corp as point-blank arty support but can't fire over other units. Are they same in Blitzkrieg?

"Cacafuego" means fireshitter. The StuG III is different in Blitzkrieg, the unit has a fire range of 4, you can use it as tank or artillery.

Re: Kiev Scenario in Blitzkreig
Oh wow 4 range is quite for the stubby little Stug. It usually was like direct fire support like for reducing bunkers that are holding up infantry. I like Stugs though so it's good they are valuable in game.
Re: Kiev Scenario in Blitzkreig
Yeah, I think that giving the Stug 4 range is historically inaccurate but I guess the devs (rightfully) chose this for gameplay reasons. In Panzercorps, they are together with the Brummbaer a heavily armored close arty support for fast advances with armor and mechanized infantry. Works reasonably well together with rocket artillery on halftracks (Nebelwerfer SdKfz). I am looking forward to those in OoB; in Panzercorps and especially Afrikakorps, they were my arty of choice: Expensive, but deadly against soft targets. Anyone used the Nebelwerfers in Blitzkrieg? Efficiency reduction is great, but the low damage, immobility and short range make them kind of useless for me. Any experience? As mobile arty, they would be awesome.GiveWarAchance wrote:Oh wow 4 range is quite for the stubby little Stug. @asap: That approach with the small, mobile arty almost looks like an exploit, even though a clever one. Should try that.
Thinking about all my campaign playthroughs, there are definitely some units I never used or hardly used at all. HeavyInf (too expensive, slow), Nebelwerfer (same), 88 AT (same), strategic bombers (need the air points for fighters and the more efficient Stukas), Bf 110 (also never used heavy fighters in all the other campaigns), heavy AA (got that covered with my fighters), actually almost any AA except for Winter War (only because Finnish fighters are shitty until you get the German 109 Gs). You guys think I missed some good units here or are those reasonable choices? Of course, many paths lead to Rome...
With all the offensive gameplay in Blitzkrieg, speed and efficiency seems top priority for me. Later, 88 AT and mobile AA would be money well spent, I guess.

Re: Kiev Scenario in Blitzkreig
Andy, I love using noobwoofs (my name for nebelwerfers) in Panzer Corp, especially the 30mm late model woofer even though it is a towed weapon. For mobile I used the arty like Hummel and stuff. I didn't use the ramen truck much cause my friend was playing and he only used those and no other arty type so I felt the need to be different from him. And I don't think they had many of those rocket trucks historically cause they were expensive high-tech hardware.
As for all that other stuff, it's good that you are struggling to find the one best way to win which means there isn't one. We can try different types of stuff and still do well. I'm probably the only player who likes heavy infantry even though I risk being burned at a stake for admitting this immense folly I indulge in.
