Hi all,
searched the forums but found nothing.
I have the newest Steam version installed. The unit strength plates are so small and blurry that they are almost unreadable (see attached screenshot, highest rendering setting, maximum zoom level). Especially for planes (remaining airborne turns), this is very annoying. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as all graphic options, but the problem remains.
Thanks a lot for any help!
E.

Re: Blurry and unreadable unit strength plate
Hm never seen that one before. Does the size change when you zoom in or out? And what screen resolution are you on?
Re: Blurry and unreadable unit strength plate
The size remains the same, irrespective of zoom level. However, when I zoom in rapidly, the plate becomes bigger for a split second before getting resized again to the same small size. Screen resolution also does not matter, I have tried everything from full screen native (1366x768) to windowed (1024x768).adherbal wrote:Hm never seen that one before. I have wondered whether it could be a missing font or something similar, because the plate itself is not blurry, only the font is. A Steam repair of local files did not help, nor did a reinstall.
Re: Blurry and unreadable unit strength plate
[UPDATE]
I managed to install it on another computer (also Win7), no problem there, normal strength plates! However, I cannot use that computer to play the game, because even on lowest settings, it is excruciatingly slow. Which, by the way and totally off-topic, is my biggest complaint: The hardware resources needed are in no relation to the graphics displayed. I would have preferred a (optional) completely no-nonsense 2D mode, with NATO tactical symbols, and the possibility to play it on a low-end laptop. It is, after all, a strategy game.
Anyhow, if you could tell me which font the game uses for the strength plates, and the mechanism how it renders and scales them, I could help you track down the problem. It must be something OOB-specific, because no other game on the computer in question has similar issues (and there are a lot of other games installed, all running without any problems).

Re: Blurry and unreadable unit strength plate
This problem of blurry strength plates happened to me too recently. Regardless of game settings strength plates were equally blurred. I realized cause of it was sudden failure on part of graphics card. Reinstalling graphics driver solved the issue.

[SOLVED]
Thanks uran21 for your post, it helped indirectly to solve the problem. The graphic card drivers were NOT the problem in my case, because I had updated them as first measure when the problem occurred.
However, I had once more a look at the settings of my Intel HD configuration tool. There is a slider with three settings (what's the point of having a slider when there are only three settings? Nevermind...) for overall 3D graphics settings: "Performance", "Balanced", "Quality". Mine was on "Performance", and when I changed it to "Balanced", the problem disappeared!
I had not thought of this before, because it never occurred to me that OOB might render the numbers on the strength plate as texture on a 3D object, instead of just rendering it as - text! Well, I have complained enough about the 3D elements of OOB, now I am going to enjoy the game.
