Skythian with greek allies

Post by fatismo »

I am making a Skythian army with Black Sea Greek allies (Classical Greek).

I want to use 3 units of 6 Javelinmen LF but the Classical Greek Allies list says "Only Aitolian Akarnanians Phokians Thessalians"

As the Skythian list says Black Sea Greek does that mean I cant use them??

As Black Sea Greeks are not Aitolians, Akarninians, Phokians or Thessalians so that would be a no.

Having used Skythian with Black Sea Greek allies can I strongly advise you don't? The Greeks themselves are a complete liability... Protected Heavy Foot, simply doesn't cut it...

can I suggest:

IC, FC, 2x TC's
3x4 Cavalry, Armoured, Undrilled, Superior, Lancer, Swordsmen (possibly 2x6 instead)
7x4 Light Horse, Unprotected, Average, Undrilled, Bow, Swordsmen
3x4 Cavalry, Unprotected, Average, Undrilled, Bow, Swordsmen

Use the FC to flank march with if necessary. Welcome to the Steppes!!!

Don't discount the Thracians..

MF protected HW are not to be sneezed at. Especially when one can still get all the shooty horse one wants and they are perfect for the uneven/rough ground steppes still allow after taking all the open ground.

Aren't the Thracians Light Spear Swordsmen at that time? (i.e. 313 BC)

As the Skythian player you take ALL the rough going and as much uneven going (minimum sized) as you can get, ergo leaving your opponent open ground and such like.

Works much better. Those pesky Light foot have nowhere to hide :)
