You absolutely MUST get Rondorf out of that Flammpanzer. He's too valuable for that. This is 1944. The fun's over. Besides, a weak Flammpanzer will draw repeated attacks by T34/85's until he's gone - which should be about 2 attacks BTW. This is how it will go. As the AI plays out its turn he'll be quickly spotted & targeted. There will be a few seconds of relief after he survives the first attack reduced to a 2 strength unit. Unfortunately, this will be a very fleeting feeling as another tank then appears from the fog to finish him. The AI just loves killing those.

You can go with your choice of a Panther or Tiger upgrade. With all of his bonuses you can't make a bad decision. Good luck!

I am trying the North Passage way on this first playthrough.

This was a fun little side adventure. I am really glad I chose not to buy any additional AA units since I lost my other 88. Now I have so many I will never run out.

I bet no one has ever been able to defeat all of the stuff on this map. It is a nice limited set up to restrict and challenge players like me who desire to take it all over. Looking at all the stuff on the final map there is no way anyone ever can destroy all of the stuff on this map. I don't care what level you are playing at. SHEESH!!!

No I avoided them like the plague, I tried pressing in other areas that did not show as much insane strength, but once I didn'y see any immediate areas to take over I finished the mission.

I see you say you destroyed an IS-2 near an airfield but I looked through my playthrough extremely carefully and I do not see any IS-2's and I took all of the airfields so you must mean South of the airfield's in the center, because I saw those.
Your idea to surround and suppress them was brilliant, I was worried that if I tried taking on some of those big dogs I would have activated some kind of massive backlash, since this was a blind through I am taking chances but trying to avoid putting my neck out there to get cut off, however sometimes that happens, and that is okay as I am playing blind and at Field Marshall level.

After looking at the map I am making the command decision to not put anything in the very Northern sector and instead concentrating everything around Minsk itself and putting a strong force around Uzda for a Southern puch once I push back the Southern advance and take the secondary objectives I will then swing up North to push on everything coming at Minsk to seize all of the other primary objectives for the win. Oh Man!!! I needed that last turn and I had to push hard to get it on the last turn. This one was a tougher slog and I lost a good unit I was trying to baby up into something special because I got cocky again. I almost lost more though and am thankful that I didn't.

Next will be Vilna which looks Ginormous and I am starting with 47647.

In looking at the map I am not sure how I will hold all of the map and take it over. I at least have 30 rounds to do it in. There are 5 deployment places but I think I will deploy them in 3 of them in 3 Strong Battle Groups.
1 in North near Sirvintes.
1 in South around Lida
and 1 in the Middle around Vilna.

I think that is what I will do and try pushing out in all areas but there sure is a lot of trees and rough terrain.

Oh my Goodness!!! It is late at night when I watched this travesty and I did not write down all of the attacks as it just depressed me and it really is all my fault as it is based on me trying to rush forward everywhere too quickly with too few of units. The attacks were all around Lipniski in the South, Molodechno in the center and Svir in the North. My soft cap has been raised to 85% so you can see how devastating the results were but no other losses, yet and the key word is yet, as some are in precarious situations and as you will see more losses to come.

So very many attacks this morning. I will try to point out some of my hurting units to capture what I am facing.

In the Center I have my Elephant completely surrounded out of ammo and at 5 Str; Albert Kirscher down to 8 str and being pressed hard; 3 artys down to 11 str.

Josef Allerberger is down to 2 str and is being withdrawn from battle.

My overall assessment of this battle is I could have and should have done much better than I did if I could only be more patient. I played with urgency that was not needed based on the 30 turns. This impatience cost me big time by me losing some pretty nice units and after some time to consider some of the attacks and results I am strongly considering changing the rest of my tanks to either Tiger 2's or Maus's once they become available as I have plenty of prestige and want to continue wiping them out and not fear their counter assaults. I may still keep my 2 Tigers and will definitely upgrade my P2 4J's, last remaining Panther, my 2 KV-1C's before I use them again probably in 1945 as the next battle looks like Panzers are not necessary and may hold off until I finish 1944.

Looking at the next map of Warsaw and reading the briefing and the 22 turns I will get to quell the uprising I am going heavy on infantry and artillery and Strat Bombers, but once I have secured Warsaw I will leave one victory hex open so I can conquer the Soviet units on the outskirts. With 0 prestige earned per turn I am going to try and keep it within soft cap on my deployment at least until I start assaulting those Soviet units.
This scenario looks much easier than previous ones and it will be good for a breather.

have you seen the Russian units outside Warsaw????? Unless you take some very heavy tanks you stand a very good chance of being creamed and for next to zero points. Stay safe , take Warsaw, live to fight another day ! P.s. take TAC's rather than Strats.

I agree. Don't be a hero Goose. It would be almost like trying to play two scenarios & two armies at once, but, only being able to deploy one core. If you choose to take on the Russians then every heavy tank you deploy is one less infantry or artillery unit to deploy & use in the city.

P.s. take TAC's rather than Strats.

I disagree here. Strategic bombers are very helpful for stripping enemy units of ammo. That's my game play style though.


Lastly, don't discount the Allied air force...

Well, of course you'll always want to bring Rudel because of the bonuses. Other than that, I prefer strategic bombers vs tactical bombers in urban scenarios like Warsaw & Stalingrad. Admittedly, the strategic bombers don't do much damage - and often enough no damage at all. But, they do cause suppression and strip away ammo - as well as reducing entrenchment. This will make attacking much easier. An enemy unit with no ammo can't hurt you no matter what its stats are or how strong it is. The AI knows this too, and if you've ever happened to have any unit in the line run out of ammo, then you know the AI will attack that unit very aggressively. I like to use the strategic bombers in the earlier years. With careful play, the suppression they cause can lead to unit surrenders & free prestige. Admittedly, I don't use them as much in the later years due to the overabundance of enemy fighters and T90's. I honestly don't use many air units of any kind as much in the later years for that matter. The prestige costs can quickly get out of hand - even if you're careful. I prefer to take free shots with my 88's. But, again, in the big picture strategic bombers are just a part of my play style. If you prefer the Ju87's & FW190's that's ok if it works for you. That proved a little more difficult than I thought it would. Those Poles were a little unhistorical but I don't mind as that meant it didn't quite feel as like the kicking puppies type of scenario that a historical scenario would have been, given the army I can unhistorically field at this stage in the war.

Next Budapest 44 which I have heard is very frustrating we shall see how I do.

Warsaw is a tough game, the Poles fight very well, I found that only massed arty over whelmed them, in reality it was the RAF but with Polish crews that tried to supply Warsaw but suffered very heavy losses, Kicking Puppies.. Never..

I like your idea of leaving one objective uncaptured to act as a "kill switch" to end the scenario. It's a good way to end things on your terms and at a time of your choosing.

If you were to take on the Russians, I think the best strategy would be to try to bait them into attacking your infantry units in the city. Experienced, high initiative infantry units can dish out serious damage to even JS II's. Ambushes & close defense combat both will work in your favor. You'll still take casualties, but they will be less costly than a purely tank vs tank encounter. In the south, a pair of strong tanks or Jagdtiger units can park next to the bridges and stop any units from crossing. Not a big deal, but the key takeaway here is that you won't need many units to accomplish this and it will free up more units for the main fight. Further, the Russians will be funneled into the city from the east side to get to you. Speaking of bridges, if you do get the Russians to attack you in Warsaw proper, you can use those to your advantage too by blocking one side & attacking any enemy units that end up parked on them.

But then it's all a little theoretical. I'm not sure what the "trigger" is to get the Russians to advance. I'm not sure if it's hex or objective based, or perhaps turn based. I'm not sure I want to know even if you do. Someday I may go back & try another play through.
