Mortar Fire in Blitzkrieg

Post by richfed »

I have noticed that heavy infantry mortar fire appears to have no effect. Zero, every time. I haven't played Pacific since the new patch & DLC, so I don't know if this is Blitzkrieg specific, or not. Anyone else experiencing this?

The mortar ability is more for causing minor suppression (efficiency loss) rather than killing.

I thought that might be the "issue." Haven't noticed any real effect, though. Will keep an eye on it.

Mhh noticed too, it slightly reminds me the artillery issue :? I can understand this choice but you cannot change damage points with minor suppression  change it with decent suppression or mortar fire is now simply unuseful....

I would prefer the mortar fire to cause some minor strength loss.
I assume it simulates 8cm/81mm mortars which should cause a bit more damage.

Edit: I just noticed in a game I'm playing that mortar fire reduced strength by 1. I'm happy with that, but more suppresion would be welcome.

I'm happy with only suppression, you could check the ballance of how much suppression there is, though.

I have the impression that the AI always prefers the Mortar Fire that the direct attack which could cause more damages sometimes :?:

Incoming mortar fire works like this: either you are dead or you are fully suppressed in cover. Running between the smoking explosions only works in Hollywood.
I don't like the mortar-feature in this game anyway and removed it by mod. In my opinion of scale and modified game do the heavy infantry units use their mortars during their direct attack, reflected by higher suppression and damage than regular infantry.

I like the Mortar Fire. I use it from time to time. In the game, it is presented like a secondary attack (you have to activate it in the interface) but it seems that the AI use this attack first (specially when the AI defends (?)).

Seems to me it's something the computer uses a lot, but I rarely use. Since heavy infantry is so great for attacking I use it for that or I repair the unit. Causes occasional 1 HP damage, but really isn't very useful unless you are entrenched in a defensive position.
