Winter war my opinion!

Post by AEMIL »

I think Winter War is great, well balanced, AI could make some better decisions; for instance AI bombers sometime attack forts which are

not even taking part in the focus of the fight.

I like that units can still fight with depleted numbers and make considerable impact on enemy.

I think this should be kept that way in the future, specially for fighters. Fighters with aces with strength one or two should be very very very difficult to shot down

Also units that have strength 1 or 2

should when attacked retreat without combat far away so that even enemy tanks can not catch them.

Thats what really happened in WW2, if commanders would see that they are fighting overwhelming odds the units would just run away.

In the new Blitzkrieg DLC the AI generally retreats badly damaged units to the rear or to exit points at the edges of the map.

We're constantly trying to improve the AI - currently focusing on expanding it's "strategic decision-making" for the upcoming Skirmish Mode.

That is a very good suggestion.

High quality specialist units with low number, but high quality / elite ranking, should be difficult to completely destroy and in some cases - like initiative / surprise / ambush - even pack a punch against numerically superior units.

Fighter and tank aces are a good example.

For ground units, experience already affects their ability to effectively retreat. 5 star units will rarely be destroyed in 1 attack until their strength has been reduced to 1 point.

Considering tank units I have just remembered that in Panzer General 2 you had a possibility of "overrun" attack. Maybe this could be programed here so if tanks surprise enemy from behind there could be "overrun" attack so the unit gets destroyed completely, also making a greater damage to tank unit, (this taking into account that units surrounded will fight desperately to the end!).

The Winter War DLC is well done, I really like the snow scenarios. It would be great, to have some more Finnish units especially recon units like a armoured car. The end of the DLC is a little strange, because I expected a final and epic battle against the Russians but had to surrender to them finally...

I just finished the tutorial campaign and going to start the Asian campaign soon. Then I will play Finnish and Blitzkrieg.
