Just want to say that i am happy when Mike wins also for his fine AAR'sMikeMarchant wrote:MikeMarchant's Gepids 16/41 (39%) beat NotJustDon's Palmyrans 49/46 (100%).
Another classic case of focussing the majority of Gepids on the enemy left flank. It was a job of work to clear out the seeming multitude of heavy Sarmatian lancers, but they were outflanked and dispatched first. That left the field open for the Gepids to sweep round the Palmyran rear, pin the front of the line in the centre, and the crash in from the rear. The light harrying on the Palmyran right flank then turned into attack as the Palmyrans raced across the field in support, creating the space the barbarian horse needed to operate in.
Thanks for the game, Don.

MikeMarchant's Gepids 16/41 (39) beat NakedCelt's Romans 45/35 (100%)
This looked like a tough battle, with too many superior legionaries for the Gepid's liking. They definitely wanted to avoid a scrap with them. The Gepid centre advanced slowly, not wanting contact too early. The Gepid left flank swept up the battlefield unopposed, while the right advanced towards the Romans massed Samaritan heavy lance. The Gepids on the right managed a small advatgae outflanking the Samratians, but the battle there was tough and progress was slow. Roman cavalry came to support and a single fragmented unit kept the Gepids at bay for two turns, preventing total disaster for the Romans on that flank. One the Gepid left flank, the Romans dispatched held their legionaries to prevent the Gepids sweeping round to their rear, but the Gepid centre held most of the Roman army at bay, standing off at charge range and limiting Roman movement. The Gepid reserve, behind the main line swept left and harried the rear of the Romans trying to protect that flank. In the end the legionaries on the Gepid left were crushed between forces tot heir front and rear, the Sarmatians on the left were similarly crushed and the even the Roman centre took significant damage.
Once again, speed and agility won the day for the Gepids.
Thanks for the battle NakedCelt and bad luck.

Edmund_Blackadder's Bactrians 35/47 narrowly beat IMC's Seleucids 58/53. The superior Seleucid phalanx took just too long to beat the Bactrian one, whilst they lost minor skirmishes elsewhere. These slowly notched up until the break point was reached. Thanks for the tight game Ian.

Edmund_Blackadder's Bactrians 34/47 narrowly beat allendeuce's Bosporans 50/50. The Roman legions carried all before them and rolled up the Bactrian flank. Given one more turn they might have broken the rest of the army Fortunately a sneaky and underhand ambush gave the Bactrians the advantage on the other flank just in time. Thanks for the game Jim I was getting worried.

Re: Special league Tournament
Victory for notjustdon's Palmyran's 18/46 39% v allendeuce Bosporans 56/49 100%
A resounding victory. The Palmyran left flank composed mainly of cavalry feinted to the left where the enemy camp was. The Bosporan dispatched his legions from the front line to counter this which gave enough time for the cavalry to then go back towards the centre. By the time the legions had turned around the Bosporan left flank and centre was being pushed back by Palmyran Cataphracts and Legionaries and the Palmyran left flank coming across soon had the enemy in flight.
Thanks for the game.

You should at least be well used to Gepids as an opponent. Best of luck.

MikeMarchant's Gepids (37/41 beat Allendeuce's Bosporan's 49/49 (100%)
A really tough battle that went right down to the wire.
The Gepids swept left this time, to meet an enormous horde of Bosporan lancers. The ground must have been pounding with the hooves of both sides. The Bosporans had the advantage of armour, but the Gepids took their flank and encircled them. It was hard fought and it was costly, but with the Bosporan horse eliminated the Gepids were able to sweep around the rear of the rest of the Bosporan army. All the way through the Gepids were well behind on the numbers, their losses much higher, but all the way through the Gepids had the superior tactical position on the field. On the final turn, the Gepids were 4 BG's from a loss, while the Bosporan's still had 13 BGs before defeat. Surrounded, and with Gepid horse charging in from all directions, the Bosporans finally fell, with the Gepids taking no further causalities.
Thanks for the game, Jim, it was one of those epic battles that will be long remembered. A very worthy opponent and you nearly pulled it off.

Hi Okie,
I know you're a busy person but any chance we might see a league table on how we all stand at the moment. I think most of us are half way through our games now and it would be interesting to see how we are all faring at present.
