Battle of the Bulge Tournament - Round 3! Fight!

Re: Battle of the Bulge Tournament - Round 1! Fight!
HI Ickie,
My guess is that you'd rolled into the "extra time" period to allow you one more turn after your game clock had run out. I'll get our server guy to take a look on the back end though, to be sure.
Thanks!

Hi,i didnt roll into extra time at all,i still had two and a half hours left of game time so....and i noticed this had already happened to others too?....any news on whats happening now as its affected 12 out of the 16 players and totally messed up the scoreboard after discussing this with two others i and they are also under the same agreement that this has to be restarted.regards...it was really frustrating because we were tottaly aware of the game clock and its time...and knew it was also the weekend and you guys wouldnt see this untill today!...PS iw as keeping a real cool eye on my clock i wouldnt have missed TEN minutes shards let alone Two and a Half hours mate honestly. Those that know me will know this.Because of all this thats happened,I and none of my friends have even thought about todays game or let alone practise?

Hi,
I've been trawling through the data on the back end for this. From what I can tell, your last game with Capote ended thus:
You uploaded your second to last turn at 08:44 BST with ~1h 30mins on your play clock. Capote uploaded his turn at 12:27 BST. You downloaded the turn at 14:02 BST with about 2 mins left on your play clock. You then submitted the turn at 14:33 BST and inside the "extra time" that is allowed for players to submit one last turn. Then, when you checked the game at 18:26 BST (ref your steam screenshot) the game was displaying 13h of this "extra time".
That last bit is an error. It should be displaying a "time out" message. I can only apologise for that! We'll get it fixed in the next patch.
For the rest, I'm afraid that you did time out, just. And that it's a fair result for this round.
However, it's quite obvious that you and Capote had a great game going on, and I feel disappointed that the game got finished by a timeout when you were both so well engaged! We're doing some investigations on our side to see if there's any way that we can increase the round time in the future as the current time is obviously too short for matches that go deep into the battle.
I can only apologise for the disappointment and also thank you for bringing the issue to our attention.

Just curious, in case I find myself desperately short on time, how much is the "extra time" allowed for players to submit one last turn?Shards wrote:Hi,

Re: Battle of the Bulge Tournament - Round 1! Fight!
HI guys,
the system seems to be behaving as intended but the penalty for running out of time is too severe. Currently if you run out of time your opponent gets a max win. This is fine in games where a player has not really attempted to complete the game but in hard fought games where players just didn't have enough time to complete its not fair.
I'm investigating how we could modify the score based on activity. E.g. I'm toying with an idea that we put in an expected number of turns that you have to achieve. If you hit this level, then the game does not time out and play continues until the round has to proceed because the next round is starting. Scores would be as they are, with no adjustments. Players that do not hit the number of turns when the time runs out, are penalised. However the penalty is not a fixed 30-0 win. The penalty would be in proportion to how many moves you had made. So for example if we say you need to complete 10 turns, and you had completed 5, you'd get half of the penalty - i.e. your current score, plus the max penalty score / 2. The more turns you complete the smaller the penalty becomes. I think this will make hard fought games give scores much more representative of the action that took place and much more satisfying.
This would require changes to the server and to the client so its a fairly large job but I think we need to do something to make time outs less punishing for real players.
Thoughts?

I agree completely with the idea of making time outs less punishing for players. I think Iain's proposal as to how to implement this sounds very good, let's try it!
Re: Battle of the Bulge Tournament - Round 1! Fight!
In other news, Round 2 is GO!!
Re: Battle of the Bulge Tournament - Round 2! Fight!
Unfortunately it seems that quite a few matches ended by timeout. We apologize for this, but we're still tweaking and testing the tournament system, and this experience is going to be extremely useful for future tournaments, where we'll do some tweaking.
In the meanwhile, Round 2 has started, We hope that you can have fun and keep playing. The first prize still stands

Not all developers are making tournaments as you do, so your effort is welcomed. Of course if some trouble arises, in my case no problem at all. You can not make cakes without staining your hands with flour...
I take into consideration your good intentions, and I sincerely think that you love wargames as much of us.

Re: Battle of the Bulge Tournament - Round 2! Fight!
Gerifonte straight to top spot without even making a move?is he even aware hes there?lol...120 points too!..sorry if it sounds like im moaning. After being robbed of a possible 30 points last round then seeing that, kinda makes it hard to continue when you know you cant win..But i am because i also am aware of your hard work etc and want to see these tournies succeed so...If i have to be a Guinea pig then so be it!

Re: Battle of the Bulge Tournament - Round 2! Fight!
Hmm, not sure why the scores are quite so one sided there, Gerifonte and brucep are playing along at a good clip!
edit: If the game is currently in a position where, if the day ended immediately, then one side would win, then the score is reported as 30-0. Notable that it's now 30-0 and 27-3 on the scoreboard.
I assume that it's going well for Gerifonte and he's hurt the Axis when playing as Allies and has got very close to an automatic victory as Axis!

I think column data 'Round #2' and column data 'Round #1' are exchanged. Are shown data correctly assigned to ther respective columns?
http://www.slitherine.com/tournaments/s ... selround=1
I think column data 'Round #1' corresponds to actual 'round #2'. I may be wrong, sorry.

Hi,
You're correct! It looks like the columns are mislabelled!

Page corresponding to 'Round #1 Scores'
But in this page the column is not mislabelled. Perhaps the page is retrieving data correponding to 'Round #2 Scores'. The url is linking to selround=1 (Round #1) but instead of showing data of this round it shows data from Round #2.

It should be 29-1 actually, looks like a rounding error! I'll ask the web team to fix the displayGerifonte wrote:Hi,
