Flank charge clarification

I need a clarification of something. In the section on charging a rear or flank, in the last point on page 56, the rules state, "If all the contacted bases are already in contact with enemy to their front, one of them is turned." Which base turns? Do you get to choose? Does a base in a second rank (or third, etc) count as in contact if the base directly to their front is contacted but they are not? Finally, how would the bases be arranged if more than one base in the same file is in contact with the charging BG?

This is not specified, but it is reasonable to assume that the non-charging plyaer chooses which of his bases will turn.

Does a base in a second rank (or third, etc) count as in contact if the base directly to their front is contacted but they are not?

If they are not in contact then they are not in contact, so of course they do not count as in contact.

(but note that a second rank base cannot be charged in its flank by a charge that does not qualify as a flank charge)

Finally, how would the bases be arranged if more than one base in the same file is in contact with the charging BG?

Buried in the section on flank and rear charges it says "using the normal rules for turning". These are on P44, but I assume you must replace the words "battle group" with "block of bases that must turn".
