I've completed all the pre-built scenarios included with Pike & Shot: Campaigns. It's been a great ride, taking me from 1494-1645 (with the end of the first English Civil War at Naseby). Would love to continue learning about the remainder of this period from 1650-1700, but I know there aren't any further pre-built campaigns included in the game.
Can anyone recommend good user-made campaigns in the 1650-1700 era? I'd be particularly interested in any campaigns built by the same scenario authors who created the P&S:Campaign scenarios. Some of these were the most tense and nail-biting battles I've had in wargaming in many years.
I'm hoping for recommendations from the board here since my experience with randomly trying user-created scenarios is that many many hours can be lost before finding out that the scenario is poorly balanced or bugged.
Thanks!
Chris

I'm unsure - are you looking for Scenarios or for Campaigns?
Re: Recommendations for campaigns 1650-1700?
Ideally, I'd be looking for a series of scenarios like the "Historical" campaigns included in the game. E.g. Italian Wars, Tercio to Salvo, English Civil War. I really enjoyed progressing through the period and reading up on the battles before and after I had a crack at them in the game. Thanks!

Re: Recommendations for campaigns 1650-1700?
The most systematic sets of scenarios are Paul59's Nine Years War and Great Northern War sets. The first set is, I believe, completed. The second set is in progress, but what has been done so far is in chronological order.istari6 wrote:Ideally, I'd be looking for a series of scenarios like the "Historical" campaigns included in the game. Note that the sets are not combined into a single "campaign" within the game because it is pretty much impossible to do this and also have all units individually named and textured for each battle. (Because each scenario needs its own bespoke Squads.csv file).

Even though I did not release the Nine Years War scenarios in chronological order, once you download them all they are listed in chronological order in the scenario list due to the way I named them. I did not explain in the scenario texts the background to the war, only the military situation leading up to each battle. The first battle will be Killiecrankie 1689, the last will be River Ter 1694.rbodleyscott wrote:The most systematic sets of scenarios are Paul59's Nine Years War and Great Northern War sets. The Great Northern War scenarios start with Narva 1700, once again when you download them they appear in chronological order in the scenario list.
As Richard says, it would have been impossible to have done them all within a single "campaign" due to each scenario having it's own unique historical unit names and graphics.

Re: Recommendations for campaigns 1650-1700?
Great! Thanks for the replies. I don't mind pulling up scenarios separately, particularly if they've been further customized to represent unique historical circumstances. I was just looking for recommendations on "groups" of scenarios that I could follow through a war or period of history and learn about that era. Sounds like these two from Paul59 will be good places to start.
P.S. Paul59 - having the descriptions/background specific to each battle is fine. I enjoy the process of "outside reading" to learn the broader context. Don't expect the scenario author to do all the history work for us

And let me just say that these are staggeringly good scenarios! The unique historical unit designations, the unit textures, and the stunning maps really take a great game and make it just excellent. Thanks Paul59 for the incredible work on these.Paul59 wrote: Even though I did not release the Nine Years War scenarios in chronological order, once you download them all they are listed in chronological order in the scenario list due to the way I named them.
