Vardariot Guards

Post by paulcummins »

Ok, Ive found out that Vardariot Guards (post Latin Byzantine list) are Turks of some description

what would they look like?

should I use Ghilman or some such (or would the bowcases be the wrong way round?)

Hello paulcummins

Luckilly nobody actually knows what the Vardariot regiment wore! Educated and informed guess is a mixture of Turkish and Byzantine equipment but richly embroidered and possibly uniformed. I have gone with Seljuq horse archers from the Essex Crusader range.

Do not, please (please!), go for the fez-wearing hussar-like monstrosities touted as "Turkmen". You may not know the correct way round for the bowcases but the headgear is pretty prominent (and in this case wrong wrong wrong until well after this period). Helmets and small turbans are mostly shown.

Yours disgracefully
