Extra material for deeper immersion into Winter War

Post by Uhu »

I always like to create an atmohphere, a campaign "story", also getting units, commander to become more personal. :)
I thought, we can collect here informations and movies regarding the Finnish, Soviet troops, who fought in these battles.

- Great war movies:
Talvisota 1989 (265 min (!) with English sub): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9KY3S36ubk
The unknown soldier 1955: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048752/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
The unknown soldier 1985: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090215/?ref_=tt_rec_tt
Ambush 1999: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162625/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
Beyond Enemy Lines 2004: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0377935/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
Tali-Ihantala 1944 (a weak film, but the war material is nice): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0378848/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

- A lot of information and pictures about Panssaridivisioona (panzer division) - the only armored formation of the Finnish army:
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=31559

- If you want to rename the Finnish units to authentical unit names, here is a good site for the order of the battle of the Finns in Winter War:
http://www.winterwar.com/forces/FinArmy2.htm
I already researched it and gave authentical names to my core and aux Finnish forces in the scenarios, where I fought in the campaign.
Here is possibility to the core force:
Inf units (regiment): JR 34-39
Arty (battalion): I-III./KTR 12 or KTR 13
Air (squad):
LLv.24, 28 (MS.406) fighter - from 3 May 1942: Le. Lv..... -> LeLv 34 Bf 109G-2 from 1943.03.
LLv.46, 42 str bomber
LLv.10 dive bomber -> 30
LLv.16, 12 - recon

You are welcome!
I find this playlist in the meantime:

I looked this one yet from the list: Air War Over Finland - it has great video footage and it speaks of the whole Finnish struggle in WW2, not just about the 1939-40 part.
