Re: B44 for BA2 - Multiplayer Campaign League
Greeting Generals,
Hope all is progressing well.
I think I've discovered the reasons for the script mismatch errors. Those players who are on an iPad have no way of deleting the previous version of the files, thus the message. While I don't think it is truly having an impact, it is annoying none the less. So for the next turn, we'll have a whole new file to download.
Here are some of the things I've been working on in evolving the play...
- Only these Army Lists to choose from (so no worry about the default ones or different years etc..)
- Scout vehicles can actually scout (not as good as actual scouts but have a longer range and can see adjacent woods/buildings etc...)
- 15cm fires every other turn (what a beast!)
- Better balanced forces
- Historically correct unit availability (KV-1 was left out! Along with the Sturmpanzer)
Here are some things I'd like discussion on...
- Added Bonuses (if one side gets, then both sides get)
- Objective Captures : the concept is for each objective held at the end of the battle, the Generals earn Prestige points. These points could be used to purchase Skirmish points and could be used for ranking that General. It would also be assumed that if a General defeats all of the enemy forces in a battle, it would be considered they have taken all of the objectives.
My main concern about the Prestige points is that it might start making the game too competitive...I really want this to be more of a Fun league. However, there is a value to having a ranking for the FM's to decide who they want to assign where.
I'll be thinking this through but I do welcome views about pros and cons and if the consensus is if it would be good to add or bad.
Hope all is progressing well.

- - chance for side Artillery bonus
- chance for Smoke Artillery
- chance for ReSupply
- Do we want a chance Airpower? If so, Fighters or just Air strikes?
- Do we want a chance for Air Recon?
- Should any of these be one sided only (ie. just Germans have Air Strikes)

Anyone been in contact with Erling lately? I'm still waiting for him to set up our game.

Maybe we need a cut off not only for the end of the games, but the setting them up as well (technically there is). Keep us info'd if you don't hear from him or see a challenge in the next couple of days (your call) and we'll arrange for another player to cover it.cavehobbit wrote:Anyone been in contact with Erling lately? Before we begin to alter things we need to consider unintended consequences. These changes could have altered the outcome of prior games. How about we finish the tourney and then you can alter the games as you wish.

Re: B44 for BA2 - Multiplayer Campaign League
Because of the script mismatch, we will certainly need to update the file to prevent that (and whatever issues are actually arising there). Further, it has been made quite clear to me that the forces need a little more balancing. So an update to the file will be coming for the next turn.skyrider wrote:Before we begin to alter things we need to consider unintended consequences. However, I am happy to hold off on the changing of the Bonuses and the Objective Prestige rule until the next campaign and I agree, the Bonuses will certainly impact future results.
Thanks for the input. Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Played hundreds of games of " The Campaign Series" until they "improved" the game to a point, that it was no longer fun! If players don't speak up a few can ruin a game!

Not to say your ruining the game, just a reflection on the past!

Re: B44 for BA2 - Multiplayer Campaign League
Thanks and understood. I certainly don't want to endlessly fiddle with it either...but with the script mismatch and the obvious unbalance of forces, I feel that this one upgrade is needed.
We'll hold off on the Bonuses and the Objective prestige. If all goes well, I'm happy to create campaigns that carry us through the war. Plenty of time to expand then.

Thanks for the kind words, but without you all, this is nothing. Community! Let's have fun! (unlike all those poor buggers who actually had to live through all of it!)
Onward and upward!

I agree on both counts. Let's keep changes to the minimum required and thanks for making the tournament happen.
Re: B44 for BA2 - Multiplayer Campaign League
Also, and admittedly from my perspective, I am not finding infantry to infantry battles unbalanced. Having said that, the Axis arty is real benefit, but the Soviets do have that 120mm mortar.

Also we could get rid of that pesky T 34, its a real source of unbalance!!collier4 wrote:Also, and admittedly from my perspective, I am not finding infantry to infantry battles unbalanced. Having said that, the Axis arty is real benefit, but the Soviets do have that 120mm mortar.

Re: B44 for BA2 - Multiplayer Campaign League
Thanks folks, glad to hear that things seem to be fair for the most part. No worries about the Infantry/Rifle Div's not a lot of change there at all (some Militia to Rifle trade for the Soviets)...and yes, the T-34 is still going to be around...and the occasional KV-1 as per history. But on the German side, I somehow overlooked the Pz. IV-F1...so that will bring a balance there as well.
On the Bonus side, I'll hold off but was thinking of offering it up as a solo play option so you can check it out and see how it feels against the AI first.
Thanks again guys, the appreciation makes the effort worthwhile!

It is Battle ACADEMY after all!skyrider wrote:Solo sounds fun and instructive!
It just got even better, I managed to turn the side bonus scripts inside out. So in the Solo version, the Germans will have different chances for different bonuses than the Soviets. The bonuses will vary not only per game but per side as well and in keeping with history.
I'll also make suggestions on points to help players determine their skill levels (trust, me, with enough points, the AI can be downright brutal!).
In the immediate term though, it appears that Erling has gone MIA. The German FM may need to take his place (or order a General to do so)...be prepared.
