During one of my games we had a situation where one his battle groups incorporating an inspired commande routed. This required a test for another unit which was within 3 inches. We then had a debate as to whether the general could apply his bonus when in the initial rout. My recollection was that this had been raised in this forum and that the answer was no but my opponent had never heard of this. The debate was good natured but we called Terry Shaw over who initially agreed with my interpretation. He could not however find it in the rules and reversed his decision. For future reference what is the agreed position?

Hi John if you look at page 101 first sentence:marshalney2000 wrote:During one of my games we had a situation where one his battle groups incorporating an inspired commande routed. A commander who is with a battle group at the moment it breaks must rout with it once. Untill the joint action phase he cannot leave the battle group and INFLUENCE any COMPLEX move tests OR COHESION tests.
Andy.
Ah.
Apologies John, silly me I looked up the section entitled "Commanders and Cohesion Tests". I even looked in the routing section, but I forgot to look in the combat section....
I remember the discussion, but can't remember the exact situation, I hope it wasn't critical.
I TOLD you I didn't know the rules.... Still, we can always blame the umpire....

I remember the situation well.
My decision was that - because I couldn't find it in the rules - I allowed him to count.
I knew there was a rule to this effect, but couldn't find it at the time. (I did point this out at the time)
I don't know if it affected the game - apologies if it did.
Moral of the story - Umpires should always carry the updated index with them.
(as well as errata and FAQ)

It ok lads, I was not conducting a witch hunt just wanted to get it right for next time. I do however have to emphasise that in hindsight the situation was really criticial and obviously thwarted the sassanid drive for world domination.
My righteous anger can only be salved by the immediate crucifixion of both Dave and Terry with me taking possession of all their world ly goods. The latter clearly being a homer referee.
