US Corps St. Vith
I play the US GC44-45 currently and I try to go for Triumph from the start. After all before was challenging, I found St. Vith to be a jump up in diffictuly with the huge amount of Tiger II, Jagdtiger and Jagdpanther and even a huge second wave of them coming at around turn 10. But what bothers me more are the mission instructions. Its like "hold objectives for further instructions" and so far (Turn 13 or so) there is nothing coming. My initial plan was not to hold all of the street crossings and I also had to give up some which I intended to hold due to strong enemy charges. Have I botched the Triumph already by giving up to many objectives?
Re: US Corps St. Vith
I believe that turn 13 is the turn you are given the order to withdraw.
You must hold at least 5 objectives until the order comes.
If you succeed in withdrawing all your core units you receive the Triumph.

Even if you take all objectives and wipe out the Germans, you must withdraw all your units. When I beta tested you could also evac the auxillary units and then get exta points.

martin, not quite true. I eliminated all the German units and got a triumph immediately, without having to withdraw my units.
As for strategy, I found the key here is fighting in the forest as much as possible. In the north and centre I was able pretty much to create ambushes and bottlenecks in the forest, where the tough German armor can be assaulted in close terrain by my rangers and engineers. In the south it wasn't possible, and so it was more of a knock-down brawl, with heavy losses all around but ultimately US air power and tank destroyers prevailed.

Hi, it looks like Nico fixed the victory conditions then, well done though on wiping them out.

I have played this scenario both ways. Evacuating your troops gives a Triumph. When I eliminated the entire German force and captured all objectives I got a victory, but not a triumph.
I will say that this US Corps is by far the toughest challenge I have faced in Panzer Corps. Of course none of these scenarios are very historical, except for the maps. I was shocked for instance, when the German Luftwaffe put in such a strong appearance in St Vith. Playing at Field Marshal, prestige limits the experience at which I can maintain my forces. Most frontline forces are lucky to be at one or two stars.

Thanks for the information. I played it through these days. The ending is easy, while its hard to avoid losses when trying to hold the objectives in the open. They really have a lot of Tiger II, Jagdtiger and Jagdpanther there, I think I counted six in the whole of these types. I evacuated the force but in the end I discovered that I had nearly wiped out the german force anyways.

Re: US Corps St. Vith
I managed to wipe out all the German units, but I lost a 4* Sherman, and a couple of other units and used up a lot of prestige in elite reinforcing 4* units that had a bad day.And my 3* P47D (admittedly with only +1 heroes) was shredded by the Me262 - good job I had some AA units to wear it down before I attacked it.
I think that next time defending the forest line would have been a better option, but the sudden appearance of so many powerful units caught me out. On the clear days, my strategic bombers and tac bomber did a good job, but there was a lot of cloud and snow.
I suspect I'll do a bit better next time I play.
