BHGS Challenge 2016

Post by madaxeman »

The BHGS Challenge is our second largest tournament of the year, with a 5-round (or more in some periods) competition running over the weekend of 16/17/18th June. This year we are back at Oxford Brookes University, where you can book onsite accommodation as a bolt-on to your entry fee, although there are of course also plenty of places nearby and we are also offering practice and friendly game facilities on Friday.

You can find details and book online at http://www.bhgs.org.uk/the-challenge.html

This year's event will feature the following competitions

FoG:AM 15mm
FoG:R 15mm
DBMM 15mm
Epic Armageddon
Bolt Action
L'Art de la Guerre 15mm
Flames of War
DBM 15mm & 25mm
Blucher 6mm

We will offer other periods if umpires/hosts are able to come forward

Details of all periods are available on the BHGS Website.
Aside from L'Art de la Guerre and Bolt Action all periods will be run in the traditional Challenge 5-games Swiss Chess format.

There will also be onsite catering available at this years BHGS Challenge throughout the two days of the competition.

Lunch will be a buffet, available from around 11.00 am both days with the cafeteria staying open until around 6.00pm on Saturday and 1.00pm Sunday.

The lunch buffet is included in the "full board" residents rate but can also be bought on the day

Breakfast will be available from 7 or 7.30 (TBC) for residents and also open to any early arriving non residents.
Friday evening non-residents can also buy food onsite
We now also have BEER for sale over lunch and in the evening, at student rates.

Juniors (Under 18) get discounted entry by using the code BHGSUNDER18 when booking.

Where there is a theme specified we are working it as we speak, but these periods will definately be offered - full information will be published as soon as we have it.

If you do want to book early and find that we end up choosing a set of lists, special rules, table sizes or game durations you can't do or don't like, we will offer a full refund so please don't let that put you off booking in early!

The Small Print

LOW NUMBERS

In the event that there are insufficient players to make your chosen period viable (normally fewer than 6 players), you will be offered the option to switch to another period or a full refund.

GENERAL ENTRY CONDITIONS

Admission to any BHGS tournament is at the sole discretion of the organisers and their decision on all matters is final. If any entrant breaches these rules, commits a criminal offence, causes disruption during the competition (including to public, traders or staff at the venue) or causes or threatens to cause damage to property at the venue the BHGS’s representative on the day will be entitled in his or her absolute discretion to require that player to leave the competition and the venue immediately, without any refund. In such cases we are likely also to refuse entry to future events

ARMY LISTS

Late submission of army lists is your best and most effective way to make the lives of the many kind, selfless and generous people who organise these events for you a real misery. Please therefore try to submit your list in good time. Deadline dates and list checkers will be published on the BHGS website and communicated to players. The BHGS reserve the right to inflict any one of a wide range of as yet unspecified grave, horrible, humiliating and potentially personally painful penalties on anyone who submits a late list. Especially if you are a repeat offender. You know who you are.... so be careful !

Query on accommodation booking. I've already booked a place in the competition but now want to extend this and book accommodation. How do I do this?

Sorry but I've had no responses from the organisers from PM, e-mail or posts so I'll ask again, how do I add accommodation to my existing competition place booking?

Hi Martyn

Sorry about that - All emails sent to the Challenge enquiry email on Eventbrite where yo booked your ticket should come to both me and Tim Childs, and the BHGS website enquiry forms also come to me but I don't seem to remember getting anything through so it may have been chewed up somehow. In any case, Tim C is the person who can add accommodation to your booking for Challenge. He's predominantly a DBMM player, and so doesn't usually frequent this particular forum unless it's to post BHGS/Warfare-related stuff but if you email or pm me on this forum I'll send you his direct contact details when I get home this evening.

Dalby
Evans
Monticolli
That's my prediction. Pete and Graham use and know their armies well, but Grahams pedestrians can only be slowly picked off by the Yuan.
Dino will smash Dave Ruddock 25-0 in the last game, pushing himself forwards and Dave to where he belongs for taking such a silly army

That's the nail in my coffin but thanks for the vote of confidence Phil. I think both Ottomans could do well. Shame you won't be there.

Terry's one unit of knights ran over an entire nation of bog trotters. Mr bannister squawked a 10-10 against me. Rob's girls got an 11-9 against Pete.

A great weekend of gaming at the Challenge - thanks very much to Tim, David & everyone else involved in putting this on for us.

Thanks also to Dave, Dino, Graham, Rob & David for 5 great games all played in an excellent spirit.

My prediction for the Ottomans was spot-on - they came 1st & 2nd (equal).

A great weekend as usual.

Thanks to the organisers and my opponents, Jon, Terry, Paul, Pete and Graham.

Well done to Terry on the win and ensuring the Ottomans hold the Challenge title for another year.
