Collector's Edition Extra Reading

Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun is a turn-based tactical and strategic game set during this turbulent time; primarily focusing on the Japanese Warring States period and Japanese Invasion of Korea. Other armies from East Asia are also made available to simulate different conflicts across the region.

Collector's Edition Extra Reading

Post by surfcandy »

How closely are the rules for Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun and Pike and Shot Campaigns based on Field of Glory Renaissance, Empires of the Dragon Army E-Book, and Colonies and Conquest Army E-Book found in the Collector's Edition?

Also is the game Field of Glory (computer version) Renaissance battles based on the PDF in the Collector's Edition Field of Glory Renaissance?

Very closely, but with some changes to take advantage of the computer's capabilities or further research. The army list books also contain a lot of interesting background information.

The Japanese army list for the Genko period is rather different from the one in Empires of the Dragon, because for Empires of the Dragon we decided that is would be more realistic to have mixed units of samurai and followers, rather than separate units of each. This is probably true, but it did not make for an enjoyable game, so for Sengoku Jidai we reverted to the representation chosen in earlier sets of army lists, with separate units of each type. The Yuan list, however, is more closely based on the list in Empires of the Dragon, although for some reason that did not include the Korean auxiliaries who were undoubtedly present in the attempted Mongol invasions of Japan. These have been added to the list in Sengoku Jidai.

Field of Glory (computer version) is based on the Field of Glory: Ancients/Medieval tabletop set. It does not have any official Renaissance scenarios, and the Far Eastern module has not yet been published. Any Renaissance battle available for that game will have been designed by the users, and I cannot say what sources they may have used.

Incidentally, I was one of the team that wrote both Field of Glory:Renaissance and Field of Glory: Ancient/Medieval tabletop rules, but I was not involved in the development of the Field of Glory computer game.

To clarify then Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun and Pike and Shot Campaigns are based on Field of Glory Renaissance rules. Then Empires of the Dragon Army E-Book is an explanation of Shogun's era and Colonies and Conquest Army E-Book is sort of what may be released in the future.

Actually it is Colonies and Conquest that covers the main period of the game as well as many other armies that may be added to the game in due course.

Empires of the Dragon cover East Asia from earliest times until 1500 AD so covers the period of the Mongol invasion.
