Game stability

Post by bjarmson »

First, let me say I like this game a lot. Most of the mechanics are well thought out and fairly straight forward. Many of the scenarios are first-rate, particularly the historical ones. The AI is complex enough to make the single player game interesting. The problem is, on the platform I'm using (new IMac: 3.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB ram, Intel 6200 vid card w/1536 mb, Retina display) it's still buggy as hell. The 2.4.0 patch has made the AI run faster but this is offset by even more crashes, freezes, and other problems than its predecessor. It's irritating to have to restart or force quit several times every game. I'd like to continue as a player and customer, but if these bugs are not fixed soon I may abandon playing this game. Don't want to but my frustration level is getting very high.

I think the game is made in Unity, which is a Microsoft product. Unity running buggy on Macs might actually be intended (or at least not as thoroughly checked by MS). Probably little Slitherine can do about it, unfortunately.

that said, you might try looking at other forums where people have had trouble running unity-based programs on Mac, and see what if any fixes or workarounds are employed?

like this thread:

Thanks for the link Ichthyic. I'm not a complete computer illiterate, but I'm a bit baffled by much of what is said there. Guess I'll hope the game becomes more stable on Macs in the future. If not, I'll have to move on to something else.

Unity is not a MS product, though they do have a number of strategic partnerships. There is no conspiracy to have it work poorly on OSX.

If you can provide any more detailed information on the issues you are having then it's all very useful for the developer.

Cheers
