Where are user-made scenarios downloaded to ?

Post by Philippeatbay »

I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to create music mods that can only be heard when playing specific user-made scenarios.

To get a music mod to play in one of the standard scenarios, you place it in the appropriate campaign folder.

But at first blush it doesn't seem to work that way for the user made scenarios.

I could probably get my arms around the issue if I could see where one of these scenarios went when it was downloaded.

What I'm really trying to figure out is how to play Turkish music during the siege of Vienna, or Lully during late 17th century scenarios, but NOT during regular scenarios.

If all else fails, I'll simply construct a Sun King version of my music mod, that should only be installed when you're about to play a scenario from that period.

Take a look under Documents/My Games/PSCAMP/Campaigns (and PSCAMP/MULTIPLAYER), there all the downloaded custom scenarios can be found.

My guess is that the custom music files (like all other custom files like unit textures etc.) have to be placed into the custom scenario folders so that the vanilla ones are overwritten.

For your project the path would be Documents/My Games/PSCAMP/Campaigns/Scenario XYZ/Data/Music/Battle.mp3.

Haven't tried that so far but it should work.

EDIT: Tried now, but it just doesn't work! Damn! - Have you asked Richard? Otherwise I see no solution for this problem.

Many thanks for that post. You've provided the missing piece of the puzzle. I was going crazy because I had forgotten about PSCAMP and couldn't figure out where to look.

Getting custom music to play when you want it to is not intuitive until you get the hang of it. It took me some time and a lot of e-mails to Richard and Pip before I finally figured it out. They were very patient, and I appreciate it.

I've just tested the system as I understand it and managed to get early renaissance music to play during the attack on the Scheldt lines. That's wrong, of course, but I'm very pleased because that means I can tailor the music that plays to a particular scenario.

So sooner or later the battle of Vienna played from the Turkish side is going to have Turkish music.

Now I just have to start putting music sets together for each of the battles.

Looking forward to your mod! I guess it would also make it possible to add different background ambient sounds to the scenarios, which would be a nice addition to the game.

Yes, I am looking forward to this as well! It would be great to have custom music/sounds for the different periods the game covers. I would definitely incorporate this into my scenarios.

Of course included music would be subject to the same copyright issues as images, with the additional problem that few recordings are likely to be out of copyright and you can't usefully mod them. So we would not be able to put any such scenarios on the official FTP.
