Playing a Rommel campaign and I'm at Prokhorovka. Not much prestige to play with and disbanding units is a necessity. I've got 5 fighters and 2 of them have been with me since 1939. One had two defense heroes +2, +3 defense and the second has +2 defense and +1 movement. The other 3 are the ones you get during the campaign Bar with +2 Attack, +1 defense and +2 initiative, Kittle with +3 attack, -2 defense and +2 initiative, and finally Nowotny with +3 attack, -2 defense and +3 initiative. Given the prestige problems with this campaign I'm thinking of disbanding a fighter and replacing it with a mobile AA. Both Kittle and Nowotny get beaten up on a regular basis and I just don't have the prestige to get them up to 13 or 14 where they appear to take less damage.
Have any of you had any luck with trading one of them in for prestige and using it on a "less elegant unit" but one that's easier to rebuild?
Thanks!

Re: Hero advice
Hate to say it but if you're in '43 & you're disbanding units for prestige then you're probably toast. Things don't get any better as you progress & the replacements for tanks & planes only cost more.
I'd try to stay away from disbanding your super heroes though - the ones that are scripted & have more than one bonus that is. Good luck.

Re: Hero advice
I suggest taking it back to the begining of 43 restart 43 with increased prestige, example if you been playing general level set sliders to general and move prestige slider up so you gain lot more prestige.
If your playing under 1.20 rules you need at least 30,000 pestige reserve for the soft cap penalties and for replacement and upgrade cost.
If your playing under 1.20 rules read about soft cap, how best to use units.
You upgrade to many units to expensive units you run 60,000 out before end of war.
You can edit soft cap out but if your on steam then might be replaced and you could find it back.
You can play under 1.14 rules but they will change things bit.
As for selling units for prestige not a wise plan, especially 43 onwards, new green unit probably will die before gaining enough experience and bonuses. Green units due to lack of experience and bonuses, have weaker states therefore if hit will lose lot more health, possible that 1-2 hits would destroy that unit, damage they inflict will be lower, so not going help you to sell off experienced units and buy green.
If you got questions I keep eye on this thread try answer anything I can.

Re: Hero advice
Better still, disable the soft cap before starting in 44.
Most of 44 East is plenty tough enough with a prestige reserve and no soft cap as you need to maintain experience which means constant elite replacements and more than likely some emergency in-game elite reinforcements on expensive critical units. Quite simply, you won't have a chance with soft cap and no accumulated prestige.
So not only is soft cap not needed to make 44 a challenge, but it's hard to work out how it will act when picking the forces for a scenario and the effects change every time you take a casualty or get awarded a new unit. Moreover it penalises you for fielding any SE unit that isn't the most expensive type available.
