If the gap between cav BG's is less than or equal to 80mm the LH cannot amke a legal move in its own turn, as it has no room to turn. If it is then charged its only option is to make its free turn to left or right and evade or get spit roasted. I assume a roasting is the only option.

If a unit of skirmishers, say LH, 2 ranks deep has enemy to front and rear so that if charged by either or both it does not have room to make a legal turn what happens to it? see below
and
are enemy cav
Friendly LH

But if evading, you can only choose to do it in the direction of the charge or to your own rear, isn´t it. So, even if you expand, your way is blocked. Turning 90º is only allowed if you choose to evade in the direction of the charge and this one does not fit exactly with your own position, and so you have to wheel to get that direction. In that situation, you can choose between a 180 or 90 degrees turn in order to make that wheel as short as possible.lawrenceg wrote:The LH could expand in its own turn (p74).
This would give it enough room to turn 90 degrees and evade.
If it does find itself with no evade route, then it stops 1 MU from enemy, or if already within 1MU does not move at all (p67).

The "direction of the charge" in this instance is found by bisecting the angle of the two charging BGs. So the LH would get to turn 90 degrees for their evade move.caliban66 wrote:But if evading, you can only choose to do it in the direction of the charge or to your own rear, isn´t it. Its an amusing one this.
If either of the enmey charge at present the LH cannot evade as there is nowhere to go so they stand and take it (1MU) from enemy if it were possible to move at all.
If both enemy charge you bisect the angle - which is therefore directly sideways. If they can physcially turn to do so they can make such an evade move and try to wriggle away - not that its easy. If they physically cannot turn again they cannot evade and take it on the chin.
Of course knowing this you wouldn't charge with both unless you were sure they weren't going to get away, or you wanted to force them out to the side for some reason (I did see someone squirt some enemy LH through a pike phaanx this way!!
And we concluded it wasn't unreasonable that the LH would try anything to get away , including riding through their own phalanx. The phalanx really didin't enjoy the chasing Knights who ran into it while it was DISRed.
Mind you the phalanx and LH shouldn;t have been in such a vulnerable position!!
