Soviet Corps SE Units
When and how many SE units can you get in Soviet Crops? In the GC's they tell you the number.

Re: Soviet Corps SE Units
I'm going through my first try at SC. I don't know what the limit is, but, I did receive a KV-2 at Rzhev-Vyazma. Strangely, when I "captured" a Tiger 1 during the Sinyavino offensive, I learned that it counts against the SE cap. It didn't feel right using it, so, I disbanded it during Stalingrad. I'm about to start Uranus, and I just got an SE Guards unit. I'm mulling disbanding it & hoping for a tank instead.GSlapshot wrote:When and how many SE units can you get in Soviet Crops? Re: Soviet Corps SE Units
By the time i finished Kursk (which turned out to be an offensive operation) i had two SE infantry units and a Focke-Wulf. I captured latter in Caucasus, and never dreamed to disband it, as it's the backbone of my air force now
Fighter is not upgradable, like every other SE plane i've seen, but it should do until the end of 1944 at the very least.
Soviet infantry is crappy, and i gladly keep both SE units - when upgraded to Guards '43 they finally are a match to German infantry. And since one has to deploy some infantry in every single scenario, i don't see any advantage in having SE tanks compared to SE infantry, as total number of fielded units ultimately would be the same. Besides, SE +1 bonus to initiative can make a difference for the infantry, that has 2 to 4 initiative, while won't be substantial for the tanks that have 10+

Re: Soviet Corps SE Units
I think I ended with two IS2s and the captured FW190 plus I'm pretty sure I had two SE guards units last time round - I'm not sure if I saved that game and can't check right now.
I have a suspicion that I exceeded the standard number of SE units due to a bit of luck. One of my Guards got killed, and I got another one the following scenario. I had Reform Units on and revived the dead one to get what looked like an extra. I don't know for sure if this was coincidence that an extra slot became available just that time. It seems reasonable that the AI doesn't count units awaiting reform when it checks if you are entitled to an extra SE unit.
Since you only ever get awarded 1 SE unit each scenario, the max this would allow you is one extra, and if the allowance went up, you would already have the full quota so you wouldn't get another slot. I'd regard it as a pretty risky strategy for getting an extra SE unit, but might be worth a try if you have a spare Guards SE with low experience and are feeling lucky.

Re: Soviet Corps SE Units
The reason to go for SE tanks is the Prestige soft cap, since SE units dont count when its calculated. Not sure if it makes a big difference in Soviet Corps as I dont have a prestige problem there yet (Im a bit after Bagration), but in WH grand campaign it is a very important reason to disband SE inf.Lagg3 wrote:...i don't see any advantage in having SE tanks compared to SE infantry, as total number of fielded units ultimately would be the same. ...

If you take the Leningrad branch instead of Caucasus, you capture an SE Tiger instead of a FW190.
