capturable units values re softcap calculations

Post by hugh2711 »

I am just going through the grand campaign again on FM (using nikivdd's excellent upgrades) but with more careful consideration of the soft cap for the later years specially: i.e. disbanding SE infantry units so only building up SE tanks which i normally upgrade to the latest version.

1) I am assuming SE units do not count towards the soft cap calculations?
2) Airforce does not count towards the soft cap calculations?
3) What is the value for the following capturable units? KV -1B, KV-1C, SU-122, KV-85
4) the softcap only considers the units you actually field in a scenario not the unused pool
Normally I disband captured units for prestige but I would keep the first three but I am trying to work out if they would be cost effective in comparison to a hero'ed up german unit?.
thanks for info

KV series and SU 122 are probably similar to their Soviet Corps equivalent, if not identical. In the case of KV 1 it is about 480.

As far as I can tell:
1) Yes, SE units are not used for soft cap.
2) No, "normal" planes count for soft cap; if you enable SE planes (like me) they don't count.
3) See the equipment file or if you use it in-game.
I sell them mostly for prestige.
4) Yes, the fielded (not SE) units are count. Therefore you need to use some cheap units too.
I prefer playing without soft cap.

thank you. I found the equipment file.
for the benefit of anyone else; kv1b=458, kv1c=504, su122=325, kv85=605.
so the su122's are cost effective, dont know about the rest.

The KV1A is a bit limited (though better in every respect than a Matilda) but the KV1B and KV1C are quite good. In 41 and 42 their armour is the best available and the HA is still useful in combination with a decent SA, ammo and fuel. They become a bit less useful after that, but I am still using the KV1C in early 1944 as the combination of decent armour and 8 SA plus lots of fuel and ammo makes them useful for cleaning up soft targets and lighter armour and they can survive a real fight if they get caught.

While I don't use soft cap I do take account of overall value for money and balance of strengths and weaknesses as prestige only goes so far even without the soft cap.
