What scale

Hi All

First post

, I noticed that old glory 15's have Battle Group deals for the game. I was wondering if anybody knew of 28mm Battle Group deals and if so who does them. I was thinking of 15mm cost wise for a scale but 28's look very nice. I am also wondering what is the most common scle that people play FOG in? I am in Australia and would love any suggestions and help please

Hi

The current focus in Canberra is 15mm (ie players with miniatures for other systems).

However a few friends here are converting our 25/28mm WAB armies and are starting to get games in.

There is a 25mm FoG competition at MOAB (Sydney - October long weekend) in which a mate and I will be playing.

The only issue with 25/28mm is that the terrain size limitations. Movement and range are OK.

I put a poll up on this forum a while back about this because I was also wondering what scale to get into and it seems that 15mm is definitely favored though a god number also play 28mm. If you want 28mm stuff cheap they make plastic Early Imperial Romans and Gauls from Warlord Games and soon Wargames Factory is going to have Late Republican Romans and Gauls. I have no idea what their schedule is for an expansion of their lines but I know they are expanding them.

I prefer 15mm for two main reasons:

(1) I am cheap.

(2) I am not a good painter, and the smaller the figure the easier it is to hide the fact that I cannot paint well.

For these two exact reasons I went with 10mm!

I just started FOG and painted up a base of 10mm pikemen. I got 10 figures on a regulation base and it looks very prickly! I think 10mm is a great scale.

My 2 favourite scales are 10mm and 28mm, but the biggest playing pool is 15mm.

The new 28mm plastics are going to be a great way to build up and army inexpensively at that scale , and to carry them to tounreys without ligament strain too!

I really want to get some 10mm armies but as nobody at the club has any and we have 10,000s of 15mms between us I can't see it happening. I have always fancied a Norman army so am thinking of getting one of those in 10mm for Xmas.

6mm is the choice of gods!!!!

Problem is that not many people use 6mm even if it does look damm good.

I base my 6mm on 15mm bases.

i have been doing 6mm on 15mm bases and can get 16 rapier miniatures pikemen on a 15mm deep base. with heroics and ros vertical pikes i can fit about 30 in three ranks of 10

I would agree that 15mm is the most popular scale especially here in the USA. Just to throw a monkey wrench into the conversation, most of my armies are actually 10mm (I started out playing Warmaster Ancients and switched over to FoG when it came out) I really like the mass look you can get from that scale. The infantry is all on 40mm x 20mm bases which is plenty of room for two ranks of troops on a stand in that scale. I have to tell my opponent whats stands are MF or HF but thats no big deal for our local group. We have even played 10mm armies against 15mm armies which doesn't look as weird as you might think.

I like the massed look of 10mm. My friend Mark has a beautiful 30YW Imperialist army in 10mm--the tercios look awesome with fifty plus figures on a base.

Just iimagine Gaugamela in 10mm. That would be spectacular.

My 10mm Classical Indian army is mostly Magister Militum (heavy chariots are Old Glory)

My 10mm Principate Roman army is Pendraken (with a couple of Old Glory artillery pieces)

My 10mm Gallic army is Pendraken.

Thanks! I own a largely unpainted 30YW Swedish army in 10mm-- figures are a mix of Old Glory and Pendraken. Both are nice, especially the Pendraken which, to my eyes, really do look like 15mm shrunk down to 10mm.

You have to admit that they did look good on mass though? I also think that using the 6mm is another form of camo against the giants!!

We are sticking with 25/28mm.......for now. We(a small regular group) have too many 25 and 28mm minies to ignore them. We talked it over....we are all too tired eyed for painting 06 or 10mm minies and terrain.

We have discussed getting some of the soft plastic 1/72nd scale troops and using them for a couple of FOG battles.
