How can I stop an upgrade?

Ok, I chose 2 ships out if a 10 ship fleet for an upgrade from an old destroyer to the new. Fine, both are in the que. the problem is I now have a resource deficit and it will take too long. My only options now seem to be to let the upgrade go ahead (it's 3 in the que so it's not like it's being worked on now) or DESTROYING IT! I seem to have no option of just canceling an upgrade. The "destroy" works fine for buildings or ships in the que that haven't been built, but not for an existing ship. Am I missing a way to just cancel the scheduled upgrade without destroying the ship? If not, can we get one?

Well that won't help. I want to stop the upgrade altogether. I want the ship back. I should be able to call the shipyard and say "he guys, cancel the planned upgrade, I will swing by in a week and pick her up". If it was actually IN THE PROCESS of upgrading, that's different, but I'm taking about upgrades in the que.

one in the que, it can't be cancelled only paused, so it's gone, one as ship has been altered, the base ship is no longer there, sorry not a lot anyone can do now.

a hard lesson learned but no big deal as put it down to learning, you will know next time

That doesn't really make sense tbh. The game's build mechanic only works on "single tasks", so anything queued should just be idle in an idle/untouched state. If anything, it's active construction should be forced to only complete/pause/scrap.

you may request it if it isn't already in the game, it may be already but i'm not sure it can be, so just put in a request and see what the developers has to say, he may say it's already in and you just need to do this or that

Haven't posted here much at all...how do I make a recommendation to the Dev? I see them now and again on the Steam Forum. Anyway, I completely agree with not being able to cancel an upgrade in progress. I should be able to cancel one that won't begin for 10 years.

Not a game breaker either way. I just don't upgrade unless I'm sure I can do without

This has become my favorite 4x surpassing Distant Worlds. If the inability of the AI to research gets fixed in this next patch, this game will be amazing
