Two problems

Post by efthimios »

The first is a weird mouse acceleration/smoothing/whatever that is VERY annoying. It takes joy out of playing the game. How can I disable it?

The second is not being able to enter the settings. I get an error of polarissector.exe or something like that, crashing/not responding right after I click on the settings link in the game menu.
Thus I can't access resolution (I assume) or any other settings.

It's a windows 8.1 laptop
i7 4710HQ @2.50GHZ
32GB RAM
1080p (external monitor only)
Nvidia driver 364.72 for a 980m

I attach my dxdiag file

What exactly do you mean? You can try Settings -> Global tab -> Mouse wheel scrolling inertia

You must be playing another game cause there is no such option in my game.
Unless you mean the settings outside the game, which as I mentioned I cannot run as the exe crashes.

you have a dual chip laptop

System DPI Setting: 144 DPI (150 percent) normally it's 100% by default

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 Monitor Model: SONY TV Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
Output Type: HDMI Hybrid Graphics GPU: Integrated
Driver Date/Size: 8/9/2015 04:52:04, 25076864 bytes (old)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M

Device Type: Render-Only Device Hybrid Graphics GPU: Discrete
Driver Date/Size: 3/22/2016 07:12:59 (up to date)

Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino Throttle

for me i'd set the card to be the main device in windows (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M) , disable all usb devices not used or unplug and see if the mouse issue goes away

PnPDriverNotFound means not all drivers are either installed or up to date

and it's not the only game your having issues with either so some other conflict, software or hardware wise

P1: StarCraft (Windows).exe

P2: USB\VID_07CA&PID_0830&REV_4001&MI_01

I do have a dual chip laptop and the nvidia gpu is the default one for months now.
DPI setting is already at the smallest possible (all the way to the left) which AFAIK is 100%
I have no idea what problem I am having with starcraft as I haven't played the game since...at least a year and I don't remember having any problem with it when I did.
the PID_0830 is a usb tv tuner car....

I unplugged the tuner card and the joystick.
The settings loaded properly. I have no idea why or how they conflict with this game. Is it Windows' fault?
In the settings I changed the game resolution to 1080p and the mouse scroll wheel inertia (not sure how that could fix the mouse lag but anyway). I clicked to exit and the settings crashed.
I tried to run it again and it crashes again...The first time I tried to re run the settings the polarissector.exe crashed. I tried again and again to re run settings and the window that tries to draw has the title "alegro" and after a few seconds the polarissector.exe crash message is here.

Anyway, I run the actual game to see if the resolution change from desktop to 1080p and the mouse scroll wheel changes changed anything. Remarkably enough the mouse lag seems to have been reduced a lot to the point it is not an issue.
No idea what is going on. But I have a feeling someone needs to release a patch sooner or later.
Thanks for your help.

DPI default is 100%, it's the screen size and how the makers make stuff look better that they alter it to a none default size, common laptop error same as dual chip vga one as well, usb mouse errors are also the same as if you think about it, you have a track ball / mouse pad, and then a external mouse and also now a joystick, any of which can make the game go haywire just being plugged in so unplugging or disabling any that aren't in use makes most or some more stable.

glad your sorted, re post if you have any other issues

Thank you.
DPI I am pretty sure it is at 100% though. There is no room to go any more to the left. :)
Though not urgent, any idea about the settings crash?

developer needs to be able to replicate it, as if yet it doesn't do it for him, only me, you and some others, with out it happening on his build atm it's like finding a needle in a larger haystack i'm sorry to say
