Interception Charges

Whilst playing Seleucids vs Medieval Danish yesterday I launched my Tarantine light horse into the flank of some knights. My opponent responded with an Interception Charge from his nearby mounted handgunners. My light cavalry's charge was obviously therefore cancelled. Does it now have the option to evade the mounted handgunners or must it carry on towards the flank of the knights but be hit by the mounted handguns en route?
