Sounds good, at the moment it is just "full speed ahead" ... no need to worry about torpedos in OoB

Well, this campaign is based on Rising Sun/Campaign series, so it should be familiar terrain for you.berto wrote:Oh my. The ongoing Steam sale, and now this. It's time finally for me to buy this game!Erik wrote:I have created a new custom Japanese campaign 'Philippines 1941' with 13 scenarios.
I've also just finished an Australian Kokoda campaign, another conversion from Rising Sun.
Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
Some good battles there*. I made it as far as Gapan, and despite the Rising Sun flying over it, I was rewarded with this. The next message from the High Command was less reasuring, suggesting some DIY stomach surgery.Erik wrote:I have created a new custom Japanese campaign 'Philippines 1941' with 13 scenarios.
*It is a work in progress.
Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
The message tells you to buy a copy of Morning Sun
All scenarios are set up to let you continue with a minor or major victory. Draw or defeat should kick you out.
If I've done it correctly that is...
How did that paricular scenario end?

I ran out of turns. I tried to do too much, too soon. I did force the bridge directly, but lost two 5 star infantry in the process.Erik wrote:

If the AI was a little brighter, I'd not crossed the bridge.
By and large the campaign worked as designed. Once I did get a minor victory, when I expected a major one.
I'll go back and see what caused it (I saved Start and End of each turn).
The only other glitch I can think of is that in a much earlier scenario I was told I'd recieve reinforcements, they didn't arrive.
Again I'll go back and look to see which ones. Keep up your excellent work.
Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
Thanks for the comments, Joe.
I'm happy that the campaign was not too easy, the last-minute adjustment of forces on each side helped. So your initial impression was spot on.

Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
I think so, but recently I've been racking up RPs but not enough CPs to spend them on... hint.
Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
I am considering halving the income for the human player.
Currently I assign 1 RP pr air/land unit pr turn and adjust this as reinforcements arrive.
I think this is a bit generous.
The CPs will probably not change, at least not increasing. Sorry about that.

Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
I finished the eleventh scenario, with another minor victory - was sure I was in line for a major one.
The campaign hangs on loading the next scenario. "Loading" behind splash screen.
..and the log.

Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
Thanks, I'll do a play-trough myself as soon as I get the time.
Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
You can have the start of the last turn of the eleventh scenario, if you like.
Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
Thanks, but I need to play every scenario from the start. I haven't done that after the last editing...
Been busy finishing an Australian Kokoda campaign.

Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
Hello Eric,
It seems to me that you are the best one to answer some questions I've had about OOB since just purchasing it and starting to play. What are the general size of the land and air units? Are they regiments for infantry and company sized for armor? Squadron sized for air units?
And I look forward to when many/all of your MP scenarios are adapted to single player. I haven't played any yet as I'm starting with the original game campaign. But I am looking forward to getting to your SP ones as soon as I can. But looking at your notes and info posted it seems you are really on track with OoB's which I think is fantastic.
I wasn't too happy when I started OOB-P with the Japanese Campaign starting with Pearl Harbor finding only 3 BB's to deal with????
And rather than Japanese SNLFs they list as Marines. Just several things that nag at me thinking what could have been. But there is lots of good stuff to enjoy about the game though. And it does seem like they made a capable editor in which those like yourselves are doing great things with given the current gameplay engine abilities.
Anyhow keep up the good work!

Re: Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?
Aksully
I can't answer for the stock scenarios since they're not mine. But it looks like there is not a set unit size in those scenarios, at least not for land and air units.
My custom scenarios differ in the unit sizes, but I try to be consistent with them within the scenario.
They range from company to regimental sized land units, squadrons to air groups.
Map hex size differs more depending of the size of the battlefield. THis means that artillery ranges is somewhat abstract.
The naval scenarios are all single ships and squadron air units.
I have a couple of custom campaigns finishing up (Philippines and Kokoda), here the scale is platoon land units and single planes.
OOB works ok at this level too although the artillery ranges of course are too short on these tactical maps.

Appreciate your time spent replying and thanks for the info. Very interested in seeing how this one looks and plays once it's ready! Great stuff!
