Re: Custom Unit sound/graphics
@BiteNibbleChomp - Yeah, I may just use the German training infantry graphic for the NAF ('Confederate Volkssturm') but they don't really look ragged enough. Ideally they would be in civilian clothes/non-standard uniform, or at least caps instead of helmets, and one of them would be throwing a Molotov. May be able to cut/paste Sombreros for the Mexican revolutionary infantry though.
@McGuba - Actually I was thinking about using Hungarian Turan tanks as most people won't recognise them by sight and they do have the right kind of look to them - would you mind if I used some of the graphics from your mod? I'll be sure to credit you. For the really advanced Confederate tanks I'll probably either have to find a Leopard 1 (the post-war West German tank) or put them together from the parts of other tanks as you say.
Aircraft is much more difficult. Harry Turtledove only described one tactical bomber (the 'Mule', the description of which is very like a Stuka), two fighters (the 'Hound Dog', which sounds just like an Me109, and an unidentified jet-fighter) one heavy bomber (the 'Razorback', which sounds like a Ju-88) and one transport ( the 'Alligator', which sounds like a 'Tante-Ju').

Yeah, sure, you can use them. Hungary is ready to support the Confederacy with the deadly Turan tanks!FOARP wrote:@McGuba - Actually I was thinking about using Hungarian Turan tanks as most people won't recognise them by sight and they do have the right kind of look to them - would you mind if I used some of the graphics from your mod? The Soviet conscript has civilian stuff, perhaps you would want to recolour that?FOARP wrote:@BiteNibbleChomp - Yeah, I may just use the German training infantry graphic for the NAF ('Confederate Volkssturm') but they don't really look ragged enough. If there is anything you want to use from Kaiserschlacht, go ahead. Just credit the author of the icon (there is a WWI Unit Factory thread with 90% of the list. If you're not sure, let me know and I'll try to find it!)
I've also ordered the first of the books in Southern Victory - figure I should get an idea of what's going on before I play the mod. Or just to waste some time

Good to hear. I'm planning to do a mod for HOI4 when it comes out (which may be another year, sigh) and if you like the books you may find a mod up your street.BiteNibbleChomp wrote:The Soviet conscript has civilian stuff, perhaps you would want to recolour that?FOARP wrote:@BiteNibbleChomp - Yeah, I may just use the German training infantry graphic for the NAF ('Confederate Volkssturm') but they don't really look ragged enough. The first book (How Few Remain) is a bit of a stand-alone, but the ones dealing with the Great War were real page-turners for me. Harry Turtledove has a writing style that some people find a bit of a turn-off (lots of repeating what you've already been told in other books in the series, combat scenes that like to remind you of certain facts about weapons etc.) but its great stuff to pass the time with.

Re: Custom Unit sound/graphics
When I get my main computer out of the shop where all my PZC files are located (hoping none are lost of course), I may have some old unit icons made years ago by VonPaulus for a American WBTS mod that never really came to bear fruit. I remember seeing them on the forum and they are probably here somewhere, but I am not sure I have them in my files. Will check as soon as I get my Beast machine back. If I have them, I will send them to you. I do remember the Yankees having light blue trousers and the rebs looking bedraggled as they were.
Old Timer Panzer General fan. Maybe a Volksturm soldier now. Did they let Volksturm drive Panzers?

They use the same files. But they don't look like professional soldiers!FOARP wrote:Re: Conscripts - the graphic I see in the units file looks like standard Soviet infantry, is there another version?

How does this work for the National Assault Force? It's an old volkssturm unit,I didn't make it but I can't remember who did

That's really good artwork. I'll definitely use it!Shoughie wrote:How does this work for the National Assault Force? It's an old volkssturm unit,I didn't make it but I can't remember who did
Yeah, I'm re-reading it for work on this mod (and on the HOI4 mod I've just started laying the foundations for) and it actually stands up pretty well.BiteNibbleChomp wrote:It arrived yesterday. Re: Custom Unit sound/graphics
Re: Butternut. It is supposedly a very similar colour to the British khaki, so British graphics could probably do in some cases.
Re: Barrels: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instituti ... es#Barrels
Confederate Mk I: Recoloured British WWI tank should do.
CSA Mk II: 7TP seems reasonable. Another possibility is a Russian BT-7
CSA Mk III: 1940-1 model of a Pz III
CSA Mk IV: Panther
CSA Mk V: Tiger II with Maus gun.
USA Mk I: A7V
USA Mk II Custer: I would use a French one, possibly the Somua
USA Mk II Adv.: Above, photoshop a better gun on.
USA Mk III: M26.
That should make life a bit easier

There's a fairly recent Somua with a Sherman turret which I have been using. It would do quite a nice job as USA MkII Advanced.

There has been so many great and ambitious mods announced here with so few of them actually finished and released.
Let us hope it is not another one.

I'll be quite disappointed if it doesn't get finished. But you might see a similar project by yours truly if FOARP can't complete his.McGuba wrote:There has been so many great and ambitious mods announced here with so few of them actually finished and released.![]()

Re: Custom Unit sound/graphics
Unfortunately I am not familiar with the books and anyway if I had more time I would try to realise my other plans, but at the moment I am happy if I will be able to release the much needed next version of my existing mods. However, it would be great to have some refreshing alternative WW2 setting like this.

Re: Custom Unit sound/graphics
I fully recommend the books. I'm now up to Walk in Hell (Book 3, covers 1916 or so) and am enjoying them a lot.
I'm not sure if you understood but I was suggesting that I might continue FOARP's work if he cancels it (possible translator issues?). I really want something to come from this mod.

Fair enough.
I just woke up and thats why the misunderstanding.
But I think you should give him some more time. Maybe he is just busy with something and will return later.
