I am looking at buying an Indian army. Does anyone have any lists they would like to share?

Re: Classical Indian List
I like this one. Onlythree generals but one is an IC so gives the boost in the shootouts adn to manouver early on. The ally bow are only to support the elephants so shouldnt need armour. otherwise the ally general ushers the elephants and chaiots to where they will cause the most mayhem. (ps they are not in order of march).chrisrivers wrote:I am looking at buying an Indian army. Does anyone have any lists they would like to share?

i suspect you need more elephants.
I go back and forth on the light versus heavy chariots. I think Heavy may be more historical. But the light chariots basically prevent you from getting a flank staved in too quickly. Heavy Chariots are tough hombres. But I have usually only used 1 BG.
Also remember if you are unprotected bow you will get out shot by EVERY other bow in the game and even LF start to be tempted by missile fights.
8 MF BOW unprotect 6 dice need 4s. 3 hits average
vs
8 LF Bow Unprotected 4 dice need 3s. 2.67 hits average.

Using Elephant BGs in pairs is recommended by veterans, usually on the flanks, as is taking as many EL as possible - even 10-12 though it squeezes out other troop types. Keep them with troops on either flank - when they get isolated they can die quickly and suddenly to overlaps or converged shooting.chrisrivers wrote:I came up with a list what do you guys think?

I wouldn't and don't take more than the required 24 bases of Bow. Needing to pass CMTs to wheel Bow to target them is a pain, so I really prefer Drilled (Maurya). If you do take Undrilled Bow, an IC for extra bonuses and bonus coverage is a lot more useful.
Heavy Chariots are quasi-Knights and shoot too, worked well with Elephants and Javelinmen (Drilled worth the +1).
The Cavalry are unimpressive. I took the minimum and kept them roving behind the lines to give rear support for the most part, though they did fight on a wing.
I'd always take the Forest tribesmen just for skirmisher skills at impeding enemy second moves, screening, and then a few extra shooting dice.
Cheers,
Mike

On the other hand if you have 4 commanders you have (probably) enough for them to be with BGs/Battle lines so that they can wheel without needing to CMT which means you can get away with Undrilled a lot of the time - a general with is an automatic wheel whereas you can fail even if you have an IC around if you need to CMTMikeK wrote:

Not that this means an IC may not be useful as well of course.

That's a good reminder that having a commander with a BG/BL allows it to avoid a CMT for a difficult forward move--4 commanders for an undrilled army would be very useful. Obviously it would be even better if one of them were an ICnikgaukroger wrote:On the other hand if you have 4 commanders you have (probably) enough for them to be with BGs/Battle lines so that they can wheel without needing to CMT which means you can get away with Undrilled a lot of the time - a general with is an automatic wheel whereas you can fail even if you have an IC around if you need to CMTMikeK wrote:
