Testing Philippines 1941 campaign?

Post by Erik2 »

I have created a new custom Japanese campaign 'Philippines 1941' with 13 scenarios.
The campaign follows one infantry battalion from the invasion of Luzon to the fighting on Bataan.
I need a couple of testers to check the scenarios before making it 'official'.

If you are interested, I'll PM you a download link.

Known issues/features:
The campaign maps and original OOB is based on the similar campaign in Rising Sun
This means platoon sized land units and single air planes (not that it matter much game-wise).
The maps are fairly small in 30x30 range, number of core units and aux units are in the 20s range.
The artillery ranges should really be much longer for these maps, maybe in a simple mod update.
There's no US cavalry type, so I used the Mongol cavalry...
Rice fields uses the same colour as water in the mini-map.
I've had the odd problem with a couple of the scenarios refusing to load on one of my PCs.
The scenario victory objectives are mostly bread & butter 'capture this location' variety.
In certain scenarios a second battalion played by the AI will cover/advance on one of your flanks.

Scenario list:
1-Agoo
2-Rosario
3-Binalonan
4-Tayug
5-San Jose
6-Cabanatuan
7-Gapan
8-Plaridel
9-Matabang
10-Orion
11-Limay
12-Lamao
13-Cabcaben

I put it in Campaigns, but I don't see anything. What have I done wrong?

Did you put the scenarios in 'scenarios' as well?
The zip should include one Campaigns and one Scenarios folder. Inside the Scenarios folder are folders for each scenario.

Since MS you can put the scenarios folder inside the campaign folder. This means you scenarios won't be available to play stand-alone at the moment, but it's easier to package a campaign.

Well they were both in Morning Sun, Campaigns - and saw only the three "buttons". Then I moved the scenarios into Scenarios - no change.

Put them in your 'regular' mygames -> OOB etc folder. I haven't tried the MS folder.

No luck. One in each, as suggested earlier. Now Single Player won't open.

Something's wrong...
Here are my folders. I have the Philippines folder under Campaigns and the 13 scenario folders under Scenarios.

Working smoothly now. Problem was all down to me - of course, wasn't paying attention with the folders.
I'd put the Campaign Folder (with Philippines 1941 inside) into Campaigns.

Good.

I'd like some feedback on:

Scenario too easy/hard?
Amount of RPs about correct?
Number of own units about correct?
Bugs of course.
Improvements?

Halfway through the first one.Think I'm being too cautious. The additional A/T units were a nice surprise, but my extra tank force (under the AI) have sailed off into the distance. Do I need to look for them? I'll send a proper set of notes at the end of the scenario, probably this evening. It's a sunny day and there is lots to do outside!

The tanks should be aux units under your command... They have no AI-orders so no wandering they get lost.
I did some last-minute changes and have probably blundered a bit.

Agoo.
No bugs, now the tanks arrive. With them it's a bit of a cakewalk. A nice touch with the American vessels, one more and it would make it interesting. Can anything be done with the AI forgetting to repair it's aeroplanes? There are more than enough RPs. I was able to use elite reinforcements most of the time and still recruit more units. Turns are not a problem either.

I can add more hardware to the US.
There's nothing in the editor that let you influence AI repairs. The AI uses land repairs a lot, not sure why it won't do air repair properly.
I usually assign 1 RP pr turn pr land/air unit. It may be too much for the human player.
The number of turns probably need to be generous to allow players a chance to win on the harder levels.

The command points available is the limiting factor for buying more units.
But the number of starting units may need reducing a bit, say about three infantry units?
The battalion contains 12 inf company units, so that was my starting point.

Joe, I'm adjusting the rest of the scenarios, reducing Jap forces and adding some to the Allies.
You may want to wait until I upload the new scenarios later today.
