Can someone please clarify this for me ? If a General joins a Battle Group and stays at the back, he can affect the CT of the Battle Group he is with and who is in Combat, and he can also affect the CT of a Battle group elsewhere in command range and not itself in Combat ? Correct ?
On the other hand, if he joins the Battle Group and elects to go and fight in the Front Rank, he affects that Battle Group's re-rolls and assists them in fighting better. He cannot then affect the CT's of other Battle Groups in command range, but the big question in our Club is - - Can he still affect the CT of the Battle Group he is with, even if he is Fighting in the Front Rank ?

Yes and Yes. See last paragraph on 99.Floyd1 wrote:Can someone please clarify this for me ? Yes their influence is designed to work at three levels that leaves you the choice of what to do with them -a major part of decisions in the game...
1. In range - influence CTs of those not in combat, but not those busy fighting
2. With a BG - can now influence CTs even if the BG is in combat
3. In front rank - upgrade quality for fighting only and can influence bG, but not other BGs, but with a chance of dying
So the more stuck in they get the more localised, but potent, their effect ........ until they die!!
Actually their effect is pretty localised and potent when they die as well

The options available to commanders and the substantial effect their positioning and possible front-rank involvement can have on the battle are a big plus for FoG.
I particularly like their move in the joint action phase, which allows them to ride to nearby targets that haven't taken a cohesion loss in the turn and roll to try to bolster them.
