Question about Lodz Scenario (GC39)

Post by Scholomancer »

I've taken a look around the forums and never found straight answers, so I'll ask it here:

What's with the giant army on the northern edge of the map? Is it triggered to come down south? Or are you supposed to stumble into it? Why are some units in trains? Do you get extra prestige or units if you happen to destroy the army?

I only fullout ran into it once, and the other times I've always dodged all but a few units. I never seem to trigger an attack or anything.

Thanks for any answers.

I think it's supposed to be General Kutrzeba's army which will be faced in the following scenario.
Maybe it's just there as a kind of foreshadowing. Whenever I play the mission, almost all of those units - besides one or two - stay stationary.
A small oversight; but it proved fatal. Small oversights often do.

I once tried to take on the army at the top of the screen in Lodz. Shortly after that disaster I started to read the mission briefings a bit more closely.

While Lodz provides one of the more obvious example of a block of enemy troops you can (and probably should) avoid, there are many other scenarios where you can make life easier by sticking to the mission objectives and avoiding trouble spots. If I remember correctly there are a few scenarios in 43 east where you can trigger a heap of trouble by crossing the wrong rivers or attacking troops that are just sitting around.

The powerful KV-85's and 15 strength IS-2's in that bombing scenario (Poznan45?) on the north and south parts of the map were the biggest surprise I encountered. I actually attacked this army when I first played in at the colonel level on the old rule set where I could afford 15 strength Tiger 2's. The IS-2's on the airfield were little match for the Tiger2's at that strength but the Russians annihilated the recon cars and an infantry that stumbled too close.

I think you meant Poltava. The one where you can earn a bunch of AA guns to sell for prestige.
