Can anyone explain what you need to do to get a decisive victory in the first scenario of the Western 42/43 DLC campaign, St Navaire? I killed all the allied land and air forces, lost no U-boats and controlled all objectives but only got an MV.
At some point, the Campbell destroyer blew up and I got a message about damage to the docks, so I guess that was the problem. But what do you need to do to avoid this? Sink the Campbell? I didn't have a level bomber, so it would not have been easy but I guess I should put Rudell on it!
Thanks for any advice!

First bit of advice then: it's called St Nazaireecon21 wrote:St Navaire?
It's been a while since I played the map, but I am certain that it is possible to achieve a DV

Yes. St Nazaire, sorry - that's what I get for posting after midnight.
A related question: what's the function of the supply dumps on the map? I just let the allies destroy them - do they matter?
The victory conditions say "defend the docks" and the U-boats. What does "defend the docks" mean? There are 3 victory hexes that are labelled docks - I assumed you just had to hold them at the end of the scenario, but evidently there is more to it that than.

Hi,
as far as I can remember, the destroyer has only an ammunition value of 1.
So let it just come near the docks, then attack it for example with an infantry unit, rendering the destroyer without ammo. In addition to that the U-boats had to survive and the docks mustn´t be destroyed by the infiltrated infantry!
Good luck

Hello econ21, if you get the message that the destroyer blew up than a DV is no longer possible, unfortunately. This happens when all three Dock VH (victory hex) are taken by Allied forces.
As soon as the destroyer arrives, some Allied land units will spawn on the map and try to take the dock VH from you. If they succeed, the destroyer will explode and damage the docks, failing the DV conditions. The dock VH can be retaken afterwards but that doesn't change the outcome. For a DV you must prevent all three dock VH becoming Allied, one or two is no problem. You can ignore the destroyer, it is not a threat, it's better to concentrate on the Allied air & land forces.
Also, the supply dumps and other structures are just eye candy, they don't matter. Well, actually, they are useful because the Allied units will spent time & ammo destroying them, giving you more time!
For some historical background, you can read about this scenario here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Nazaire_Raid Might help explain why the scenario was made as it is.
