FoG new player help!

Post by burn3r »

Hi all,
I recently purchased FoG digital and have played out a few battles but am unfortunately not doing so well. This seems like a great game but I'm relatively inexperienced in this type of game.

At this point I'm getting frustrated as there doesn't seem to be a tutorial and I feel like I'm missing even some basic concepts that would help me succeed. I see there was once a wiki, but that appears to now be lost to the sands of time. I've done some searching as well, but I have not been able to find any helpful resources either in this forum or across the web.

So I was wondering if anyone knows of a getting started/strategy guide? Something that would help explain some general concepts, strategy and tactics that I could use to help actually win a battle - at this point anything would be appreciated. Thanks!

It is something that absolutely needs to rectified because you're right, there are a bunch of details that simply aren't in the manual. In absence of this, the community of experienced players is always really good with answering any/all questions on the forum so feel free to just list them out as they come to you on this thread and we will do our best :)

I suppose you have checked out the 'HELP' button on the main screen when you load FoG? That's packed with useful information, but doesn't really serve as a beginner's guide.

Definitely do post any questions you might have here and we'll be happy to help, but another idea might be to play a multiplayer game online where you can discuss things as you go along. I am sure that there are plenty of players here who would be happy to do that with you and play in a sort of tutorial mode where the purpose would be to help you learn rather than to play to win.

If that sounds like something you'd like to try, just post here and I or Jonathan or others can set up a game for you. I'd certainly be happy to help.

It is a game that's worth persevering with. There's a very lively and friendly community here too. Best of luck.

Best Wishes

Mike

Thank you both - I'm continuing to play and feel like I'm starting to (sort of) get the hang of things. I'll continue to plug away and will definitely head back here when I have questions.

I was aware of the "Help" button and have been making use of it. Do you know if there is a pdf version of the content? It would be great to reference it while I'm playing a game.

There is no pdf help file that I'm aware of. Go to your install folder, which in Windows is C:\Program Files (x86)\Slitherine\Field of Glory\help, and click on the index file. It will open up in your browser and then you can quickly Alt-Tab between the game and the help file as needed.
