Unable to run mod campaigns

Post by Solaristics »

Hi, I'm unable to get the mod campaigns to run. Battle of Britain works fine, but the Churchill mod doesn't run. It appears on the mod selection screen (alongside BoB and the vanilla campaign), but when I select it the screen just goes black and it doesn't launch (although I can still see the cursor). Also, custom campaigns I've put in the mod folder do not appear on the mod selection screen at all. I'm running the latest version of the game for OSX.

Regarding a problem with a specifc mod it's better to contact the mod creator, as we at support don't test mods.

If you are creating your own custom campaign, use one of the stock ones as a template.
I did this when creating my own (custom New Britain campaign) and finally got it working. I mostly kept the files from the original.
You may try to delete some of the original extra files (graphics etc) and test if this break the campaign.

Also, if you are trying to create both a mod and a campaign using the mod, this may complicate matters.
Better test a campaign using the standard data values first.

Thanks for the replies.

I've raised this with technical support as suggested, but in the meantime I'm still trying to resolve this on my own.

@Erik: The only thing I want to mod is the vanilla campaign's structure and add a few scenarios, not change any other parameters of the game. Which directory from the vanilla game do you copy into the mod folder to make sure you have all the relevant files for the vanilla campaign? (I see you've only used the "campaign" and "scenarios" folder for your New Britain campaign, but when I copy those into the mod folder they don't appear on my mod selection screen).

@VPaulus: At the moment I'm unable to get any mod to run, including the template Churchill mod provided by the developer (the BoB mod works, however, as I mentioned). I don't think this is a mod-specific issue: either I'm doing something wrong or there is a bug in the OS X version.

Update: What I've done now is create a dummy mod that exactly replicates the Battle of Britain directory structure but substituting out the contents from the BoB folders with the content from the vanilla campaign. The mod was recognised and ran although none for the objectives text for the Pearl Harbour scenario appeared, just the generic objective tags. Where is that file hidden?

Edit: The relevant objective text is in the corresponding scenario folder, but for some reason it isn't being picked up. Same as the briefing text data, which is also not appearing, but the generic tags.

I tried to install a mod folder with the original campaigns. Use Battle of Britain as an example.
I get a black screen when running the game. To me it looks like modding the original campaigns is prohibited, probably to protect them.

I copied the neccessary folders/files from the main game folder.
If I remove the mod.txt (copied from Battle of Britain), the game runs but do not display the new mod.
If I include the mod.txt, I get the black page when starting the game.

Now, I did manage a long time ago to mod the tutorial campaign, essentially editing the scenarios and run alternative boot-camps.
But I did not create a mod (usually done to edit ie unit values), I just edited the scenarios.
The new tutorials I placed in the My Games Campaigns folder (not under the Mods folder).
So maybe it is possible to do something similar with the original campaigns (at least edit the scenarios).

Hope this helps

There is a file text_english.txt inside the specific scenario folder. This is created by the editor when you save the scenario.
You need to copy the scenarios from the main game folder to the My Games ... Scenarios folder.

Looks like our posts crossed over here. I tried your suggestion of moving the scenarios out of the mod folder's scenarios subfolder into the My Games/ .../Scenarios folder (it's actually not called that on the Mac - the game installs the folder into the Home directory and not the games folder) and now the briefing and objective text appears correctly. Seems odd that it works this way. I'll need to test it out and read through your comments some more, and see if I can mod the vanilla campaign this way. Thanks for the help. I would not describe this game as modder-friendly at the moment, to say the least, which is a pity, as that's the main reason why I bought it.

Yep, I've been banging my head against the wall to get my own customizations to work.
There is no official editor manual yet.
I campaign editor has been promised, I guess it sits in the queue after the forthcoming campaign(s) are finished.
BTW, I only have the PC-version so my answers pertain to that.
